Personality types
+
hi

Since all villager come in one personality type, the section that deals with "personality" should be more like an automated paragraph. What I mean by that is, we don't need to type an original paragraph every time we describe a villager personality because ultimately, villagers are part of a template. Since each personality type is also associated with a gender, we don't have to worry about the pronouns. Anyway, this might help bolster the stub pages, although the furniture stuff might take more work to do. 14:42, March 7, 2015 (EST)

Villager navigation
The navigation templates for the villagers should encompass all villagers, divided by species, not just list a fraction of all villagers by its species. It's to ease navigation, but I don't see any qualms with this. Does anyone else agree? 14:14, May 25, 2015 (EDT)

Personalities in New Horizons
So, from both watching two (still ongoing) playthroughs of short, as well as my own, I've been able to observe some patterns in how the personalities happen:

* The two villagers you start out with are one of the 57 available Jock villagers and one of the 24 Uchi/Sisterly/Tomboy villagers. This bit I'm sure people are aware of.

* When going on mystery island tours before/during the house-building quest, the game will generate villagers of the Normal, Peppy, and Lazy types for you to invite from an island each into your town, filling in any uninvited slots with a random villager of that personality if you haven't done so before completing the building of their house. I invited Chevre (Normal) and Sprinkle (Peppy), and didn't invite a lazy villager so ended up with (ugh) Pudge (Lazy). One of the playthoughs I watched invited Bluebear (Peppy) and didn't invite anyone else, so he ended up with Celia (Normal) and Egbert (Lazy).

* When you invite a villager with one of these personalities, no more of them will be generated on any future islands you visit during MITs. I was aiming to get Megan (Normal) for my town and had already invited Chevre by the time I worked this out, so it was too late.

* The Cranky, Smug, and Snooty villagers don't become available until you've built the Campsite.

I'm hoping that someone will be able to slot in the relevant information, as right now, I don't think I'd be up to the task through a combination of tiredness and other things. AgentParadox (talk) 02:09, March 28, 2020 (EDT)

Personality name discovery
So Dorsal Axe discovered the "official" names for the villager personality names as found from the datamined parameters from New Horizons:

*<code>boy_normal</code> - Lazy

*<code>boy_active</code> - Jock

*<code>boy_pride</code> - Cranky

*<code>boy_snobby</code> - Smug

*<code>girl_normal</code> - Normal

*<code>girl_active</code> - Peppy

*<code>girl_pride</code> - Snooty

*<code>girl_big_sis</code> - Uchi/Sisterly

Dorsal said that Snobby makes more sense than Smug. We have active discussion about renaming Uchi to Sisterly but guess we may change the name to Big Sis then. Also not sure about the others, they are the same for the both genders. == Rearrange the order of personalities ==

Currently, the 8 personalities are listed in alphabetical order in the Villager#Personalities section. I think they should be rearranged in a "logical sort order." To be clearer, although it's never stated in-game, the 8 personalities are counterparts gender-wise.

*Lazy <> Normal (a more "default" type of personality)

*Jock <> Peppy (a more "energetic" type of personality)

*Cranky <> Snooty (a more "mature" type of personality)

*Smug <> Big sister (new personalities introduced in New Leaf)

I've categorized them like this in my mind as a logical type of ordering, before I was aware of the external evidence introduced in New Horizons. At least safely, it's logical to group the original 6 personalities as "earlier" than the 2 new personalities, in potential lists.

The default internal sort order in New Horizons, as detailed in NpcLooksParam, suggests this is the correct logical ordering. Additionally, other than specifying gender, and other than the new personalities introduced in New Leaf, the name identifiers are identical and suggest the existence of counterparts (0 is usually a starting number when it comes to programming):

*0. Lazy (boy_normal)

*1. Jock (boy_active)

*2. Cranky (boy_pride)

*3. Smug (boy_snobby)

*4. Normal (girl_normal)

*5. Peppy (girl_active)

*6. Snooty (girl_pride)

*7. Big sister (girl_big_sis)

Furthermore, Nintendo has offered something that would somewhat officially suggest this logical ordering: when they teased the series 5 amiibo cards, including returning and unreleased villagers of (at the time) unknown personalities, they placed the villagers in a very specific order: Lazy -> Normal -> Jock -> Peppy -> Cranky -> Snooty -> Smug -> Big sister -> repeat x2. The teaser was meant to be a hint about the personalities of unreleased villagers, which turned out to match appropriately with the default personality sort order, alternating between gender.

I feel it supports a logical ordering, and personalities listed on this page should be reordered accordingly to match this. One user in the past did support the idea of matching the counterparts together, but the edit was reverted at the time as it was suggested to start a discussion before changing the order around. I would like to restore this edit, but ordered Lazy -> Jock -> Cranky -> Smug, and Normal -> Peppy -> Snooty -> Big sister. :Comment I recently learned that Pocket Camp's datamining supports the default ordering system I mentioned earlier. Internally, the personalities are ordered from B1-B4 (boy 1 to boy 4) and G1-G4 (girl 1 to girl 4). Here is the info (courtesy of the Pocket Camp datamining community):

Town Tunes
I think it could be a good idea to add an example of what a villager's version of the town tune (when you talk to them) sounds like. You don't necessarily need one for every villager even though they all have slight variations, as that would be way too difficult. Just one for each species on its page would be good enough.
