Yeah, I think it should be "turtle" since "kappa" refers to a mythical creature. Turtles in Japanese are "kame", not "kappa". Mario^{Talk to-a me!} 16:50, September 6, 2013 (EDT)

Well, actually, there's a difference between kappas and turtle, but since nonJapanese versions refer to kappas as turtles, kappas are the same as turtles, and thus, should probably redirect to "turtle". Mario^{Talk to-a me!} 17:09, September 6, 2013 (EDT)

Turtle?

It seems half of kappas/turtles are marked as kappas, while the other half - turtles. What is best fitting name for the species anyway - kappa or turtle? vmario97 (talk) 05:38, April 3, 2021 (EDT)

If the localization calls them "turtles", then that's what we should call them (while also still acknowledging that they are "kappas" in the Japanese versions). As for which name would be more fitting, that doesn't really matter all that much in the grand scheme of things considering their identity as "turtles" is really only a localization thing due to Kappas not being very well known outside of Japan (it's the very same reason as to why Tom Nook and the Nooklings got their species changed from "raccoon dog" to "raccoon"). A somewhat glaring problem right now is that Turtle links to a disambig page rather than the species page. This can be fixed by moving the Kappa article to Turtle, so it should also be accounted for if we have to change the kappas/turtles to just turtles.

Of course, doing so will need a small header on the top to redirect to the respective fishes (Soft-Shelled Turtle and Snapping Turtle). -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 14:01, April 3, 2021 (EDT)
