The Dynamic Painting is a painting first made available in Animal Crossing: City Folk. It is sold only in Crazy Redd's. The Dynamic Painting is a copy of The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a woodblock print that is the most famous work of Hokusai. This print was part of a series called "36 Views of Mount Fuji" - on close inspection of the painting, Mount Fuji is visible on the horizon. Other than the mountain, the print depicts three boats struggling against huge waves near Kanagawa.

Authenticity

In New Leaf, if Mount Fuji appears clear and nearby, rather than faded and distant, then the painting is a forgery.

In New Horizons, there are no forgeries of this painting.

Museum exhibit description

"This is the most famous piece in a series called the Thirty-Six Views, yet the actual total in the set is 46."
— Museum Exhibit, Animal Crossing: New Leaf
"The signature piece of ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai, painted as part of a series when he was in his 60s. Although it is dubbed "Thirty-Six Views," he eventually added 10 more to make 46 in total."
— Museum Exhibit, Animal Crossing: New Horizons
