[[Villager (Super Smash Bros. series)|Villager]] is a new fighter representing the {{SER|nolink}} in {{SSB4|3dswiiu|nolink}}. They are a starting character in both versions of {{SSB4|nolink}}. They were formally revealed in {{SSB4|3dswiiu|nolink}} first trailer, revealing alongside [[smashwiki:Mega Man (SSB4)|Mega Man]] and [[smashwiki:Wii Fit Trainer (SSB4)|Wii Fit Trainer]].

Villager makes use of several items, tools, and mechanics throughout the {{SER|nolink}}, including references to other games. Their neutral attack involves pulling out boxing gloves possibly referencing ''[[wikipedia:Punch-Out!|Punch-Out!]]''. They use an [[Umbrella]] to swing as their forward tilt, waves a stick as their up tilt, and pulls [[weed]] out for their down tilt.

Their dash attack involves dropping a potted sapling which can hit opponents from afar. Their forward smash drops down a bowling ball, while their up smash causes them to summon a [[Handheld item#Fountain firework|fountain firework]]. Meanwhile, their down smash uses their [[shovel]] to dig opponents down akin to the effects of a [[Pitfall Seed|Pitfall]]. They fire using a [[slingshot]] as their forward and back aerial, and they occasionally swing one to three [[turnips]] as their up and down aerial. Finally, Villager pulls out a [[net]] as their grab, where they must swing their opponents away.

[[Pitfall Seed]] makes a return from ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', having the same effects of giving any fighters the buried status effect. Pitfall Seeds also enable the ability to use a meteor smash.

New to this game are [[Beehive]]s. When thrown at a fighter, [[Wasp|bees]] will pop out from the hive and proceed to continuous deal damage to the fighter that was targeted. If thrown elsewhere, the bees will attack the nearest opponent, and if a fighter hits the Beehive on accident, the bees will retaliate and attack back. After a few minutes, the bees will swarm away.

{{SSB4|nolink|3dswiiu}} also features [[Isabelle]] as an Assist Trophy. She will continuously throw [[fruit]] to the fighter that summoned her, instantly healing them as they touch the fruit. She will react when opponents try to attack her, if her summoner is KO'd, and if the summoner scores a KO.

Villager had been nerfed and buffed with each additional update, such as Villager no longer being able to pocket the spring and trampoline of [[smashwiki:Sonic (SSB4)|Sonic]] and [[smashwiki:Pac-Man (SSB4)|Pac-Man]] respectively after the 1.0.6 update. The {{SER|nolink}} also received additional content within the DLC of the game, with a [[Isabelle]] Mii costume being added in an update on June 14, 2015. Additionally, a [[K.K. Slider]] Mii costume was added in Japan as a promotion with [[7-Eleven]], from June 19, 2015 to July 11, 2015. The costume was available for free on July 31, 2015 for international players.

A soundtrack collection known as ''Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U: A Smashing Soundtrack'' was released via [[Club Nintendo]] in 2015 in North America, Europe, and Japan to users who registered copies of both games via the service. It contains a selection of tracks from both games, including four tracks from the {{SER}}, on two CDs.
