Game Card description
Choose 3 character cards that have the strength and stamina to win a relay race against a computer opponent or a friend. The last runner must run the farthest so choose the scanning order carefully.

Animal Relay is an Animal Crossing-e and Doubutsu no Mori+ Card-e e-Reader minigame played on the Game Boy Advance. The "A" version of the minigame is contained on the P01 Boy (1) Game Card, and the "B" version is on the P03 Boy (2) Game Card.

There is an Japan-exclusive "SP" version of this minigame that is contained on the promotional Boy & Girl Doubutsu no Mori+ Card-e Game Card.

Gameplay[edit]

Gameplay of Animal Relay

In Animal Relay, the player must scan three Character Cards. The scanned characters then team up for a relay race against against another team of three characters. Based on the combined stats of the three chosen characters, the player's team finishes the race in a predetermined amount of team. If both teams have the same characters, the rival team always wins.

There are three difficulty levels that determine the rival team's speed: "Slow", "Average", and "Fast". The amount of time the rival team takes to complete the race is random. If the player's team wins the race, the game gives the player a password.

The North American versions of Animal Relay feature a pseudo-multiplayer mode where the player scans the characters for both teams. No passwords are given in the multiplayer mode.

Rival team characters[edit]

The characters on the rival team and the time it takes the team to complete the race are predetermined for each difficulty in each version of the game. Even if the player chooses one of these characters as their teammate, that character will still appear on the rival team:

A
B
SP

Passwords[edit]

Each version of Animal Jumprope has three passwords: one for each difficulty level. If one of these passwords is sent in a letter to any villager, the player receives a letter in return from Tom Nook that contains an item.
