Chickens are a type of bird villager in the Animal Crossing series. There are 14 chickens so far, one of which is an islander. There are an equal number of male and female chickens; however, five chickens are absent from Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, two of which are male, and three of which are female. This includes Leigh, the only peppy chicken so far. Of the chickens, three are jocks, one is cranky, two are lazy, one is smug, two are normal, one is peppy, three are snooty and one is sisterly, who was formerly peppy. Betty, Hank, Hector, Leigh and Rhoda are the only chickens who're not appeared after Doubutsu no Mori e+. Ava, Egbert, Goose and Plucky are the only chickens in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp so far.

In the Animal Crossing series, chicken villagers are characterized by their cockscombs. They also have small heads which end in a ruff of feathers, with the exception of Knox, who wears a helmet.

Unlike their real-life counterparts, chickens in Animal Crossing lack wattles, and their combs are of equal size on either gender.
