The City Plaza is a location in the City in Animal Crossing: City Folk. Depending on the time of day, one to six potential villagers will be wandering around the plaza. It is possible to talk to them, and they will talk about things like Crazy Redd's and The Marquee. If the villager recently left the player's town, or another town that is connected, the villager may have the same catchphrase and clothes as they did in the town. Phineas is located in the plaza, along with a fountain, with a Serena statue on it. Many people will talk about the stores, their money, or about the players from friend's towns or your town. Every time you come out of a store the visitors will change. If the villager has recently moved, and you talk to them, they will seem to have never known you.

Villager Swapping

This section contains unconfirmed information or speculation.

Many people believe that when a villager leaves, if you talk to a villager in the city that they will be the new villager in your town. It is not known if this is compatible with the Villager Movement system and has been proven false by some people.

It is also possible that when talking to a villager that has just moved out of a friend's town they will remember the catchphrase they had before they moved out. It is also possible for that villager to move into the player's town, but there are not any greater chances than any other villager.

Theories end here.
