Animal Crossing Wiki (2010)

On July 12, 2010, Animal Crossing Wiki was setup. It was originally run by a user on the (now defunct) animalcrossingforums.net. Although affiliated with NIWA and receiving a few edits, a database problem caused the wiki to shut down without any backups created.

Nookipedia (2010 - present)

Nookipedia owes its history to Animal Crossing City, originally hosted on Fandom (named Wikia at the time). Founded in August 2005, Animal Crossing City was created on Fandom by user Aeryka. Shortly after its fifth anniversary, Fandom opted for a mandatory implementation of a new skin, 'Oasis'. The outrage and tensions that followed caused many wikis to move off the site, including Animal Crossing City.

Originally the staff desired a move to ShoutWiki, which while it was committed towards early on, a decision was made to merge with the Animal Crossing Wiki, reopened on October 23, 2010 and separate from the original wiki created from July 2010. Later that year, the merger with Animal Crossing City completed, and on November 19, 2010, Animal Crossing Wiki joined NIWA shortly after on November 19, 2010.

At the end of 2010, the staff agreed on a name change to Nookipedia (from Animal Crossing Wiki), to give the wiki a distinct and memorable name, as well as a new site skin. This update was completed in time for new year and launched to the public on January 1, 2011.

The wiki has since overseen the rise in popularity of the Animal Crossing series from the likes of Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the latter of which resulted in Nookipedia taking on a prominent role in the ACNH Spreadsheet Community. In mid-2020, the wiki initiated the implementation of Cargo, allowing a database of all known items across the Animal Crossing series.
