Autumn, also known as fall, in the Animal Crossing series starts on September 1st and ends on November 30th. In the Southern Hemisphere in New Horizons, autumn starts on March 1st and ends on May 31st. During autumn, the trees begin to change color to an orange-brown and the grass frequently change color and turns dull. Insects and rarer fish start to disappear, being replaced with cheaper fish and insects such as the Pike and Monarch butterfly, making autumn one of the more quiet seasons in the series, rivaled by winter.

Events

Below is a list of events found in autumn. It contains what happens in each event, what game the event happens in and when the event happens.

First Saturday of every month in Wild World or Fourth Sunday of every month in City Folk
Players can visit villager's homes and buy selected items of furniture. Likewise, villagers can visit the player's house and buy items from them, at a price set by the player.
Second or Third Saturday or Sunday (depends on game) of September, October, and November
Chip (or Tortimer in Animal Crossing: Wild World) the fishing ace will set up a stall in the Plaza and will challenge the villagers of the town to catch the biggest fish (either overall or a specific type of fish). The competition ends at 6:00 PM, whereupon the winner will receive a trophy. A notice will also be put up on the bulletin board announcing the winner.
Second Saturday of October (Northern Hemisphere) or Second Saturday of April (Southern Hemisphere)
C.J. will ask players to catch as many fishes as possible within a 3 minute time range, setting up a cooler where any fishes a player gets will be stored immediately. There's a fee of 500 Bells per run, but during online play the fee is waivered. The competition lasts from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, of which after a certain point threshold the players will receive a trophy in their mailbox. Players can also redeem points for "fish swag".
A Sunday in March or April
Bunny Day is what is in place of Easter, where Zipper appears outside Residential Services. Eggs appear around town and players can collect them and use them for DIY recipes. Bunny Day is celebrated in the preceding 11 days before the day of Easter and has a different date per year.
April 23rd to May 4th
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nature Day is celebrated via special Nook Miles+ objectives that earn 5x the miles from completing. Leif also appears more frequently than ever.
May
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nook Shopping will allow the player to purchase a Thank-you-mom mug.
May 1st to May 7th
Tom Nook will invite the player to go on a special island tour where they must solve a maze in order to reach Rover for a special prize.
May 18th to May 31st
Blathers will host a stamp rally in the bug, fish, and fossil exhibits. The players must find three stamp stations that changes locations each day in each bug, fish, and fossil rooms in order to earn a prize from Blathers.
First Monday in September
In Animal Crossing, the player can talk to Tortimer near the Wishing Well to receive a Shop Model. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the player will instead receive the Picnic Basket from the mayor outside the Town Hall.
Second Saturday in September and November
On this day, the player can hear villagers' suggestions for a new town tune. After the tune is sung to the player, they can decide whether or not they want it saved as the town's new melody.
September 23rd to September 24th
Players and villagers compete against each other in for different events - Aerobics, Foot Race, Ball Toss and Tug-o-War.
Fourth Sunday in September and November
Villagers swap compliments with the player, and may refer to them infrequently after the event.
October 12th
The mayor will be near the Wishing Well to reward the player a Bottled Ship in Animal Crossing. In Animal Crossing: City Folk the player will instead receive the Sailboat Model from Tortimer outside the Town Hall. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf Isabelle will be standing in the plaza waiting to give the player a Sailboat Model. In addition to this there will be a cutout for player to pose with.
Second week in October
Cornimer will be outside Town Hall, exchanging Mushroom furniture for acorns.
October 31st
Jack will appear between 6:00 PM and 1:00 AM. During this time, players can play trick or treat or earn Spooky Furniture by offering candy to Jack.
Fourth Thursday of November
Franklin the Turkey will be hiding somewhere in town. Tortimer sets up some tables and food outside the Wishing Well (Animal Crossing) or Town Hall (Animal Crossing: City Folk) to celebrate. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Franklin will appear in the plaza and request that player collects four ingredients so that he can create a dish. Upon receiving the ingredients he will present the player with a piece of furniture.
All of November (or May in the Southern Hemisphere in New Horizons)
Five (New Leaf and New Horizons) or six (City Folk) mushrooms will appear every day next to trees. One will be a piece from the Mushroom Series. The others can be sold to Tom Nook or Re-Tail, given to Wendell in Animal Crossing: City Folk, or eaten by the player. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can use all five mushroom variants in DIY recipes pertaining to the Mushroom Set.

Weather

The weather in autumn consists of a mixture of clear, sunny days and some patches of rain. Snow will begin to fall towards the end of November, but will not stick to the ground until early December, in winter. In New Leaf, thunderstorms will dissipate around September, giving way for regular rain.

In September, (specifically the 8th in New Leaf) trees will begin to turn from bright green to a dull, musky green. In October (the 17th in New Leaf), trees will then turn a bright orange/brown color. Grass follows the same color pattern as trees, by turning a dull green color in September, then a dull purple in October. In November, the grass becomes a very dull pinkish-gray, and then in December, the ground, weeds, and clover all turn gray. Dandelions will disappear until next summer. The trees will often gradually change color.
