Fishing Rods are used to catch fish. Catching fish is essential to the game if the player is to complete the Museum. Silver and Golden Fishing Rods lure fish from farther away distances.

Players can get this rod if they catch all fish.

If players catch every fish, then the next time they play, Tortimer will give them the Golden Rod.
In City Folk

To obtain this item, players can purchase from Tom Nook's store for 500 Bells. Unlike the silver and gold fishing rods, this rod does not attract fish.
Silver
To obtain this item, players can purchase from Tom Nook's store for 500 Bells. This rod attracts a decent amount of fish.
Gold
Players can obtain this item by catching every fish and then talking to Mayor Tortimer (who greets them outside their house).
In New Leaf
Regular
To obtain this item, players can purchase from Timmy and Tommy Nook's Store for 500 Bells.
Silver
To obtain this item, players can purchase from the Museum Shop after donating at least thirty fish and deep sea creatures to the museum.
Gold
Players can receive the gold rod from Chip after they collect every fish in the game.
