A real Hinamatsuri. From the top down is the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians.

The Girl's Festival is an event that happens only in Doubutsu no Mori. The purpose of the event is to wish all little girls health, growth and happiness. It is the girl's version of the Boy's Festival in Japan.

During the Girl's Festival 2009, the Girl's Day Wig was a distributed item to Japanese Animal Crossing: City Folk players via WiiConnect24.

Also, Tom Nook will sell Hinaningyous in his shop. The Hinaningyo is an in-game version of the Hinamatsuri. In Japanese culture, they are displayed on Hinamatsuri, also known as Japanese Doll's Day or Girl's Festival, a religious holiday celebrated on March 3rd in Japan, as well as the U.S. state of Hawaii. Near the end of the festival, the ancient Japanese custom of hina-nagashi, in which the dolls are set afloat on a boat and ferried down a river to the sea, is practiced. This act symbolizes the release of worries and the passing of illness, as dolls, in Japanese culture, are said to contain bad spirits. The name "hinaningyo" refers specifically to the dolls.
