Hairstyle

From Nookipedia, the Animal Crossing wiki
A player after being given a new hairstyle in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Starting in Animal Crossing: Wild World, the player has the option to change their hairstyle at Harriet's barber shop, Shampoodle. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Shampoodle is available inside of Nookington's, meaning that the player will have to unlock Nookington's before being able to change their hairstyle. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Shampoodle returns in the City and is located at the right side of the town, down the alleyway. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Shampoodle again needs to be unlocked, after which it is found on the right side of Main Street above the Able Sisters. In all three games, haircuts cost 3,000 Bells, and can be done only once per day.

In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, players can freely change their hair at any time after unlocking the Styling Machine. In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the player is able to customize their hair in the Tutorial and in the Settings menu. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players select their hairstyle in the beginning, and can freely change their hairstyle afterwards (once they have crafted a mirror).

Players can also wear wigs in order to access additional hairstyles. While technically considered a type of headgear, wigs will match the player's current hair color.

Questions

The questions are as follows:

  1. Harriet: "Hmm. Now tell me, sugar, when do you want your style to REALLY come alive?"
  2. Harriet: "Do you like the sun? How does it make you feel? (if answered "Every day.") OR "I'll bet you're just the toast of every party, aren't you?" (if answered "Big nights!")
  3. Harriet will ask one of the following:
"If you were rushing to the salon and someone were to call to you, what would you do?" (if first answered "Every day." and then "Warm...")
"Are clothes important to you?" (if answered "Every day." and then "Sweaty!")
"If your ideal hairstyle were a song, what kind of song would it be?" (if first answered "Big nights!" and then "Well, duh!")
"Well, will you tell me a bit about your primping routine?" (if first answered "Big nights!" and then "Unfortunately...")

Opposite Gender Hairstyles

It is possible to receive the opposite gender's hairstyles. In Wild World, Harriet will only offer this option to players who have received all hairstyles of their own gender at least once. In City Folk and New Leaf, players need to get a haircut 15 times before the option appears, but do not need to get every available style. In Happy Home Designer, opposite gender hairstyles will not be available during the initial character creation, but can later be selected after unlocking the Styling Machine.

There is no option for opposite gender hairstyles in Pocket Camp.

In New Horizons, gender is referred to as 'style' (although the Japanese version still refers to it as gender). Both styles are accessible to the player during character creation and onwards.

Bed Head

Bed head is a messy hairstyle that appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons. It occurs when the player has not played for 15 days or more, or when time travel more than two weeks forward or backward. In games prior to New Horizons, if the player does not replace it with a new haircut, villagers may comment on the player's hair, and it will be more difficult to pass Gracie's fashion check in City Folk. Harriet will also comment on it when the player receives a new haircut to replace the bed head. In addition, bed head will overwrite any other hairstyle the player has, but it will not change the hair color. If bed head overwrites an opposite gender hairstyle, it will become the opposite gender's bed head style.

In New Horizons, since hairstyle is customizable via a mirror/vanity, bed head is temporarily, being replaced immediately with the player's chosen hairstyle. This also unlocks the usage of bed head as an hairstyle option when customizing the look of the player.

Unlike all standard New Leaf hairstyles, bed head is unavailable in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Pocket Camp.
