This is a list of items that can be held by the player throughout the Animal Crossing series. Only one item may be held at a time. In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player can swap between handheld items by pressing left and right on the D-pad.

Balloon

Balloons on a Tortimer Island tour

In Animal Crossing balloons are given out by Redd at the Lake on July 4th. Tom Nook will also give the player a free balloon in his store during a sale (but not on Sale Day). In Animal Crossing: City Folk, balloons are obtained free of charge from Phineas in the city, while in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, they are obtained from Happy Home Showcase players. Balloons do not appear in the catalog in City Folk and New Leaf, but do appear in the catalog in Animal Crossing for 40 Bells each and sell for 10 Bells each. Balloons are held in the player's hand like tools, which means that they cannot use a tool while holding a balloon. Balloons can also be placed in a house. If the player trips while running or falls in a pitfall while holding a balloon, they will lose it.

Balloons also appear in the Tortimer Island tour Balloon Hunt and are worth one point each when popped with a slingshot. In multiplayer, players may pop balloons of their color only.

Bubble Wand

The Bubble Wand is an item introduced in Animal Crossing: City Folk that can be obtained from Phineas in the city on clear days. It can be obtained in Animal Crossing: New Leaf from players within the Happy Home Showcase.

Functionality

If the player presses the 'A' button on the Wii remote while holding the Bubble Wand, they can blow bubbles. The bubble wand is only for enjoyment of the player, as it has no other purpose.

Bunny Balloon

A player holding a Bunny O. Balloon

Bunny Balloons are items given out by Redd at the Lake on July 4th (Animal Crossing), or by Tom Nook on one of his sale days (Animal Crossing), or by Phineas in the city (Animal Crossing: City Folk), or given out by players that update their model home frequently at the Happy Home Showcase in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Unlike regular balloons, Bunny Balloons do not break if the player falls down or is shot with a slingshot while using Wi-Fi. In addition to this, they still maintain the shape of a balloon when placed inside the player's house, while other items obtained from Phineas do not.

Bunny Balloons are featured in the Tortimer Island slingshot tours where the player must shoot down as many balloons within a set time limit. These ones are worth three points as opposed to the regular balloons, worth one.

Dandelions are weeds/flowers that appear randomly in the player's town from March to November. After a few days, they turn into Dandelion Puffs, which can be held by the player. If they press "A" while holding one, the seeds will float away.

Fountain Firework

Fountain Fireworks are items in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Timmy and Tommy will sell them at their shop during August for 200 Bells, along with Sparklers and Roman Candles. Also, Isabelle may give Fountain Fireworks to the player during the Fireworks Show, especially if they have no other firework-related items in their inventory. Players drop Fountain Fireworks on the ground to use them, unlike other Fireworks Show items. After a Fountain Firework is used, it becomes a Used Firework, which is a trash item.

They also appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, being used as Villager's up smash.

Ice cream

Ice cream is an edible item introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. By carrying the item, the player can consume the ice cream. The ice cream can be obtained after the player has met with another player via StreetPass in the Happy Home Showcase eight times for ice cream, and nine times for soft-serve ice cream. Unlike coffee and sparkling cider, a whole ice cream can be eaten by the player at once by pressing the A button.

List of ice cream flavors

Below is a list of ice cream flavors the player can obtain:

  • Choco soft-serve
  • Lemon double scoop
  • Strawberry ice cream
  • Swirl soft-serve
  • Matcha soft-serve
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Vanilla soft-serve
  • Mint double scoop

Party Popper

Party Popper WW Inv Icon.png

A Party Popper is a festive handheld item. The party popper, like the roman candle and the sparkler, is given to the player during special events, including New Year's Eve, by Tortimer and is given out at random. However, in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, it can be bought from the Nookling Stores in the month of December for 300 Bells. It is not the same as the sparkler or roman candle, as it shoots out confetti when activated and does not last as long, and neither does it come in different varieties of color. Also in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Isabelle hands out party poppers to the mayor and the villagers who come to the ceremonies for public works projects. She does not use one herself.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the party popper is Isabelle's forward smash.

Pinwheel

Pinwheel CF Icon.png
A pinwheel in City Folk.

The Pinwheel is an item in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. When the player is carrying it, it will spin. The pinwheel's spinning speed changes depending on the player's movement.

In Animal Crossing, pinwheels could be obtained during a sale or grab-bag day. Pin-wheels come in may different colors and sizes. They can be ordered from the catalog for various prices.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, pinwheels can be obtained by speaking to Phineas in the City on a sunny or cloudy day. Pinwheels come in 8 different colors: Green, Cyan, Blue, Indigo, Pink, Red, Orange and Yellow. Pinwheels have no purpose other than to spin and be carried around town. If the player holding a pinwheel runs into a tree, the pinwheel may break.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, pinwheels can be obtained from players within the Happy Home Showcase.

Roman Candle

Roman Candles are a type of handheld object given to the player by Tortimer or Isabelle during special events (such as the Fireworks Show or New Year's Eve) in town. They are similar in appearance to Sparklers, but unlike Sparklers, Roman Candles glow a certain color when activated and shoot out sparkles in the direction the player is pointing them.

To get more Roman Candles, the player can drop the ones already acquired and then ask for more from Tortimer. Using this, the player can fill their whole inventory with Roman Candles twice. After that, Tortimer will apologise to the player, claiming that he has run out of fireworks.

Sparkler

Sparklers are handheld objects that Tortimer or Isabelle gives to the player to use during special events in the Animal Crossing series, such as the weekly Fireworks Show in August, as well as New Year's Eve. A Sparkler is similar in appearance to a Roman Candle, but only sparkles until it burns out.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Timmy and Tommy will sell these for a limited time along with Fountain Fireworks, Roman Candles, and Sparklers during August. They will replace the Fortune Cookies if being sold.

Tweeter

A tweeter is a held item introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It is obtained from the Happy Home Showcase after connecting with ten people via StreetPass or from Isabelle on New Year's Eve.

Tools

Tools are the most fundamental handheld items in the Animal Crossing series. They are mostly sold at Tom Nook's store or Timmy and Tommy's store for 500 Bells each. Examples of tools include the Axe, Fishing rod, Megaphone, Net, Shovel, Slingshot, Timer, Toy hammer and Watering can.

Umbrellas

There are many different designs of umbrella, but they are mainly used as accessories and do not serve a major function. They can, however, be used to prevent the player getting a tan on warm summer days. Villagers will carry umbrellas when it rains.
