Why can't we upload svg files ? ThomasUnD (talk) 06:36, March 2, 2020 (EST)

How to format images before upload?

I'm not sure if I just haven't checked in the right place, but I am curious to know if there are rules about the formatting that is done to images (specifically ones where a background is removed to create a transparent image) before they are uploaded. I looked in several places and wasn't finding anything immediately obvious saying anything about this. Most specifically, for right now I was looking to attempt to work on things for some ACPC Info missing image requests, but cannot tell if a specific format is being used for said images, beyond their size and transparent background. I've noticed that some images (on pages that do have them) have what seems to be a thin orange-red border around them, and am not sure if this comes from obtaining these from a certain source, or if it is intentional formatting done to them for the purpose of use on this wiki. Would be happy to help with formatting and adding these images if I knew more about how to keep them consistent with the rest of the wiki! Poppliopal (talk) 04:10, October 26, 2020 (EDT)

Hello Poppliopal, thanks for bringing this up. You're right that we don't have any established standards regarding sourcing, editing and formatting images. We're actually in the process of establishing a policy, and you can take a look at the current proposal here if you're interested. But to answer your question, in this case we would want to use the sprites that have been data mined from the Pocket Camp application itself. I believe the 'orange-red' border might be the outline that's present on most of the icons in Category:Pocket Camp furniture sprites. In general, we don't support making an image transparent if it was originally created with an opaque background. Nor do we endorse the outlining of an image. If this needed to be done, it would uploaded as a separate image and used for a specific and isolated purpose. If you do plan on finding and uploading more of these sprites, I would make sure to touch base with AlexBot2004 to make sure you're filling out template {{File Info}} correctly as we've had some confusion regarding that as of late. If you have any further questions feel free to post here or on my talk page and I'll be sure to answer them for you as soon as I can. Thanks! Ah, gotcha! That does seem like a good guideline for being able to keep everything consistent! Unfortunately I don't know how to datamine, so I will have to stick to finding other places to help. Thanks for the info tho! Poppliopal (talk) 04:08, October 30, 2020 (EDT)

any image

When I upload an image it only shows the file link. wut?????? - unsigned comment from Acnh Player (talkcontribs) 23:42, February 25, 2024 (UTC)

Hi Acnh Player - once you've uploaded a file via Special:Upload, you can use it by following the directions at Help:Images#Using_images. For example, if you uploaded a file called "Example.png", you could use it in an article with a caption like this:
[[File:Example.png|thumb|150px|Example caption goes here]]
If you need further help, please let us know what you're trying to do and where you're stuck. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:56, February 26, 2024 (EST)
