Inclines, also known as ramps, are a type of geography that appear in all Animal Crossing series games, with the exception in Animal Crossing: Wild World, where the town has only one level. As its name implies, it connects the higher and lower parts of town. It is a vertical piece of land, usually covered in grass. Due to a ramp's steep slope, however, sport balls and snowballs are difficult to transport uphill since both easily roll down the ramp.

In Animal Crossing

In Animal Crossing, each town has at least two inclines, one on each side of town. Occasionally, a town can have four inclines if its map has three levels.

In City Folk

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, inclines serve the same purpose as in Animal Crossing.

In New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, ramps connect the town and the beach, and can be on the same side of town. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, a new sideways-facing type of ramp is added. It appears on either the eastern or western side of town (the cliff side), and leads to the Campground, which is a major new addition run by Harvey.

In New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the player begins the game with no inclines on their island. In the meantime, the player would need to use a Ladder. After Resident Services is upgraded from a tent to a building, the player may talk to Tom Nook and decide to purchase inclines for the island. A maximum of ten inclines can be built on a single island. Additionally, inclines can be demolished for a fee of 10,000 Bells. The Inclines are 2x4 spaces.

Inclines can be built on the second or third cliff tier, but not the fourth cliff tier similar when players attempt to climb up that tier with a Ladder.
