The clankoid is a gyroid item in every first-generation Animal Crossing game.
The clankoid can be obtained from a dig spot the day after it rains or snows, or from Wisp. In Doubutsu no Mori, it can also be obtained from Redd during a Fireworks Festival for 1,000 Bells.
In Doubutsu no Mori, this item appears in the homes of 
Gonzo.
In Doubutsu no Mori+, this item appears in the homes of Gonzo.
In Dòngwù Sēnlín, this item appears in the homes of Gonzo.
For villagers who have this item placed on the floor in their house, there is a chance that the villager will gift it to the player.
