The tape deck is a miscellaneous furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As a miscellaneous item, it can be placed on either the ground or on the surfaces of tables and other similar furniture items that have surfaces for items. The item acts as a stereo, allowing the player to play music they have acquired. As an outdoor item, it will provide an additional 0.5 development points towards the island rating.

The tape deck can be obtained from Nook's Cranny for  2,900 Bells. The item's color can be customized by Cyrus at Harv's Island for  1,000 Bells. Additionally, starting in version 2.0, a special tape deck can be found just outside of Resident Services that can be interacted with to initiate Group stretching.

This item appears as a furniture item in the homes of Admiral, Audie, Biff, Big Top, Bones, Charlise, Chief, Curt, Frank, Goose, Greta, Hamphrey, Hazel, Hornsby, Kevin, Kid Cat, Louie, Murphy, Peewee, Puck, Raddle, Sheldon, Tad, Tiansheng, Vladimir, and Wart Jr.. As a result, this item has a chance to be purchasable by the player if they were invited by any of the preceding villagers.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for Angus, Beau, Benjamin, Boyd, Butch, Cobb, Croque, Cyrano, Drift, Faith, Genji, Goose, Harry, Hopper, Kid Cat, Kiki, Leonardo, Marty, Murphy, Purrl, Ricky, Rocco, Scoot, Stinky, Tom, and Truffles. The item can also be unlocked when tasked by Lottie to design the café.

After unlocking this item in Happy Home Paradise, the item can be purchased from Wardell's catalog for  2,600 Poki.
