The trash bags is a customizable houseware furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Until version 2.0, the trash bags was a miscellaneous item. However, the item can be placed on either the ground or on the surfaces of tables and other similar furniture items that have surfaces for items. As an outdoor item, it will provide an additional 0.5 development points towards the island rating.

The trash bags can be obtained from crafting, which requires 1× empty can, 1× boot, and 1× old tire. The recipe for this item can be obtained from catching 15 trash. The physical recipe is unobtainable as of version 1.11.0, and it will disappear if flown or kept between play sessions. The item's bag color can be customized either by using 1 customization kit or by Cyrus at Harv's Island for  1,000 Bells.

This item appears as a furniture item in the homes of Chief, Frett, Hornsby, Jacob, and Katt. As a result, this item has a chance to be purchasable by the player if they were invited by any of the preceding villagers.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is available for use in designing after completing six vacation homes and the school facility. Boyd, Chow, Cube, Harry, Hippeux, Hugh, Prince, Raddle, Renée, Rizzo, Rocco, Shep, and Wolfgang feature this item in their order list when designing their vacation home. The item is also featured in the order list of the restaurant.
