Label, also known as Labelle in GracieGrace (ことの, Kotono), is the store clerk for GracieGrace in Animal Crossing: City Folk, a clerk for the Able Sisters in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and an occasional visitor in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Her name might be derived from la belle, French for "the beauty" as well as Labelle; in turn, her name might be a reference to a clothing label, as well as rhyming with the names of the other two Able Sisters. In Japanese, her name comes from keito, meaning yarn, as well as the feminine name "Kate," while her real name Kotono is derived from "cotton."

Characteristics

Appearance

Label is a purple hedgehog with sky-blue mascara and her eyes pointed off to her right. Label's quills are also more draped than her sisters'. In City Folk, she wears a black dress and a Gracie-style necktie. In New Leaf, her tie pattern has been changed to an orange gingham pattern. In New Horizons, she wears a black dress shirt, white dress pants, a blue jacket, and a pair of sunglasses with white frames and orange lenses, along with the orange gingham tie she wore in New Leaf.

Personality

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Label seems to act perky and talkative while working at GracieGrace, often saying that she "completely understands" if a player does not wish to buy something, or greeting players pleasantly when they first enter the store. This changes in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, as in that game Label is straightforward and almost apathetic, simply saying "thanks" if the player leaves without buying anything. However, if the player buys at least one accessory a day for enough days, Label also begins to open up and acts friendlier to them, eventually to about the same extent of friendliness as Mabel usually shows. She also has a stern dream of becoming a fashion designer and does not allow anything to stand in the way of her dreams, not even her sisters. This may mean that she is stubborn at certain times, though she certainly does not show it. She has finally achieved this dream in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and is kind and friendly to those who speak to her. Her fashion check reward of offering Tailor's Tickets, which can be used at the Able Sisters store, suggests that she remains in good standing with her sisters.

Background

Label is in charge of GracieGrace, as Gracie herself appears uninterested in maintaining her own store, due to her celebrity status. She is apparently a long-lost third Able sister, even though the other two have not talked about there being other family besides their mother and father who died when Mabel and Sable were very young and despite any evidence of this sister never existing until now. Sometimes, if the player stays at the Able Sisters after closing, they can talk to Sable, and she remarks how the player hasn't met half of their family. Also, if the player befriends Label enough, she will also start to share some past memories with them. Additionally, Label repeats things Mabel says such as, "You come back, now!", which Mabel says every time the player leaves her store. Label then stumbles and rephrases herself for a more elegant way to put it. If the player befriends some characters for long enough, they will tell the player that Label is the third Able sister, not naming her by name, but referring to her as a third Able sister who took a job in the city. She is the middle child of the family.

Appearances

In City Folk

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Labelle runs GracieGrace, as the real celebrity, Gracie, does not want to own a shop. Though GracieGrace sells more expensive items, Labelle says "it's a small price to pay for quality."

Able Sisters episode

The episode is a part of City Folk when the Able Sisters start to reveal that Labelle is their long lost sister.

Requirements:

  • Speak to Pelly at least once.
  • Befriend Sable (Speak to her for 12 days).
  • Unlock Nookington's.
  • Buy at least one item from the Able Sister's Shop and GracieGrace.
  • Have Gracie conduct three fashion checks.

Throughout the story, the player visits Sable and Mabel, Pelly (Once), Gracie, Tom Nook, and Labelle. They reveal the story of their lives. While Tom Nook, Pelly, and Gracie don't blurt out secrets, they do tell more of the Able Sisters' lives. Label reveals that she wanted to leave to become a fashion designer, but Sable got into a fight with her, and Label left. Sable wanted to stick as a family after their parents died and Mabel was too young to understand anything back then.

The player should then talk to Mabel when she stops following them around in Able Sisters. She will sigh, and the player can either say "What's wrong?" or "Back to work!" If they say "What's wrong?" Mabel will say she got a letter from someone in her past. Then, the player should talk to Pelly. She will tell them that Mabel is getting letters from some person. Pelly also says that she does not want to be nosy, but she also wants to find out what it is all about. After that, the player talks to Labelle when she stops following the player in Gracie Grace. She will tell them that nothing is wrong and everything is fine. The next day, the player talks to Gracie (who will be there, but not do a fashion check) and she will say that her life has fallen off the catwalk and Labelle says chic is a baby chicken. The next day, the player talks to Mabel, and the day after that, they talk to Tom Nook, and the day after that, they talk to Labelle. Then, for the next three days, the player talks to Mabel and then Labelle.

In New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Labelle is reunited with her family and now works at Able Sisters. She runs the right branch of the shop, which sells accessories. According to Sable, she claims that Gracie began to call her Labelle to make her name fancy while her real name is Label. However, Labelle stuck to the name given to her by Gracie.

In New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, once the player has built the Able Sisters shop, the ability for Label to appear will be unlocked. On random weekdays, she will appear outside of the Resident Services building. She has become an independent fashion designer, telling the player that nowadays she goes by her real name, while "Labelle" lives on as her fashion label. Much like Gracie in previous games, she will conduct a fashion check for the player. Unlike Gracie however, Label will not open up a store.

The player is given a certain theme by Label that they must put together an outfit for. She will give them an article of clothing that matches the theme so they may get an idea of what type of clothing should be worn. Once the player matches an outfit that suits the theme, they should talk to Label, and if a suitable outfit is worn, she may reward the player with an article of clothing from her Labelle label, which will become available for purchase at Able Sisters the following day. She will also mail the player one or two tailors tickets, each of which can be exchanged for a single item worth up to 3,000 Bells at the Able Sisters store. Label explains that the tickets cannot be used at Timmy and Tommy's store. If the player conducts enough fashion checks with Label, she will start to express the happiness reaction when she sees the player.

In Pocket Camp

In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Labelle is a part of Able Sisters To Go and occasionally appears in Market Place. As in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, she sells the player accessories and headwear.

Able Sisters

Description NTSC-U: Able Sisters is a clothing and tailoring shop run by three completely different sisters. The oldest, Sable, quietly sews in the corner. The middle child, Labelle, sells accessories, and the youngest, Mabel, greets customers cheerfully. They fought in the past but have put that behind them!

PAL: The three Able sisters are like chalk and cheese...and thread, but running a clothes shop makes good use of their strengths: Sable works quietly at the sewing machine, Labelle sells accessories, and the cheerful Mabel welcomes people in. Despite their quirks, they get along well...usually.
