Look
Most prominent in Animal Crossing: City Folk, a Look is the term given to a unified clothing theme.

Identifying a Look
A look consists of an outfit and a piece of headgear—either a hat or a full facial "helmet". The two items must match each other: for example, a Bear Top and a Bear Cap. An entire Look is hardly ever on sale on the same day—storing items that are part of a Look in a storage unit, whenever on sale, will prove useful.
Most items that are part of a Look are found in the Able Sisters' shop. When the player selects an item, Mabel will give its name and price. She will also add that it is a part of a certain Look (if it is one), which she will name in conversation by highlighting the name in blue.
GracieGrace offers items that are part of some Looks, although neither Gracie nor Labelle will point it out. Nonetheless, wearing a complete Look from these items will affect the player as listed below. In addition, the Link Look and Samus Look are exclusive to the Tom Nook Point System.
Effects of a Look
Wearing items from any Hero Look, as well as the King Tut Mask, will produce a different jingle.
If Gracie is present in GracieGrace, and the player has a complete Look (with matching headgear and accessories when appropriate), and shoes matching in color, she offers a temporary discount of 10% on all items in her store. This offer applies only for as long as the player remains in the store.
On Halloween, if the player has a complete Look, they may approach a villager while indoors, resulting in the villager giving candy to the player. In addition, the look will prevent your accessory from being changed into a Pumpkin Head and will prevent your shirt from being changed into a Patched Shirt or a Moldy Shirt. [1]
On Festivale, villagers will give players a random piece of candy if the player is wearing a complete Look. This only happens the first time they see the player.
Wearing the King Tut Mask, which is part of the Egyptian Look, will bring bad luck to the player: this will cause them to trip more often, as well as a greater chance of being captured by a tarantula or scorpion.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Looks have become purely aesthetic. Gracie no longer gives a discount when having a complete Look. The mechanics of Halloween and Festivale have also changed, thus making it unnecessary to keep a complete Look in these occasions. Items belonging to Looks are still available in Able Sisters and GracieGrace, and Mabel and Labelle (but not Gracie) will point them out if such.
Due to the introduction of other clothing categories, Looks now require an accessory/headgear and either a matching dress or matching top and bottoms. While the shoes Kicks sell can be made part of a Look (e.g., Zap Boots with a Blue Superhero Look), he, like Gracie, does not identify them as such.
Similar to City Folk, a different jingle will play when wearing items from certain Looks. The King Tut Mask will still provide bad luck. These are the only noticable effects on gameplay.

Note that some Looks list more than two accessories, e.g., the Native Look. In these cases, either accessory is acceptable to achieve the Look.
