The player taking a Maple Bonsai from the lost and found in Animal Crossing

The lost and found (formatted as the Lost & Found in Animal Crossing) is a feature in the Animal Crossing series where items appear for the player to take for free. It appears in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Random items appear in the lost and found occasionally, and if a structure is built over a dropped item, it will appear in the lost and found.

Appearances

In Animal Crossing

In Animal Crossing, the Lost & Found is in the police station. There can be up to twenty items in the Lost & Found; any subsequent items replace the oldest one. The following items from Tom Nook's store can appear naturally in the lost and found if they are in the town's common rarity group: furniture, wallpapers, carpets, clothing, umbrellas, and stationery. Additionally, Axes, Fishing Rods, Nets, and Shovels can appear in all towns.

In Wild World and City Folk

The lost and found in Animal Crossing: Wild World
The lost and found in Animal Crossing: City Folk

In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, the lost and found is accessed by speaking to Booker at the checkpoint.

There are fifteen item slots in Wild World and twelve in City Folk; however, only ten items can naturally appear in either game. A new item has a 50% chance to appear in each empty slot in the lost and found every day, up to a maximum of five items per day. Below are the items that can naturally appear in the lost and found:

  • 20% – Pitfall Seed WW Inv Icon.png Pitfall Seed
  • 10% – Furniture WW Inv Icon.png Furniture from Tom Nook's store
  • 10% – Stationery (x4) WW Inv Icon.png Stationery from Tom Nook's store
  • 10% – Top WW Inv Icon.png Top from the Able Sisters

The furniture, stationery, or top that may appear is affected by the town's rarity groups and the player's item fêng shui. Upon town generation, three items—either furniture, stationery, or tops—will appear in the lost and found.

In New Leaf

The lost and found in the classic police station in Animal Crossing: New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the lost and found is in the police station like in Animal Crossing.

There can be up to ten items in the lost and found; however, only five items can naturally appear. Each day, a number of empty item slots corresponding with the number of days since the player last saved each has a 50% chance to be populated with an item. Below are the items that can naturally appear in the lost and found:

  • 10% – Furniture NL Icon.png Furniture from the town's common rarity group
  • 10% – Top NL Icon.png Top from the Able Sisters
