Louie is a jock gorilla villager in the Animal Crossing series. His localized name in several languages, along with him wearing the Lil Bro's Shirt prior to Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, seems be a reference to Luigi from the Super Mario series. His catchphrase, "toots", was changed to "odelay" in Happy Home Designer, and to "hoo hoo ha" in New Horizons. In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Louie was released as DLC on September 26th, 2015, where the player could get him at Nintendo Zones in celebration of the Super Mario series' anniversary, and from October 6th, 2015, Nintendo distributed him through SpotPass.
In New Horizons, Louie has the fitness hobby and will be more frequently seen participating in exercises by stretching or lifting heavy weights.

Appearance
Louie is a brown ape who strongly resembles Donkey Kong, a character from the Super Mario universe. In fact, his name and initial shirt, the Lil Bro's shirt, refer to Luigi, Mario's younger brother, which is changed to the Big Bro's shirt in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer to reference Mario himself. He has a petal parasol on rainy days, which may reference Princess Peach.

Louie has a jock personality, which means he will have a keen interest in sport and fitness, making him appear competitive and in some cases rude when talking to other villagers, usually criticizing their fitness. He will appear slow-witted and absent-minded when talking about deep, meaningful things. He will get along well with peppy villagers, but get confused by the choice of lifestyle followed by lazy villagers, who appear opposite to the jock personality. He may offend and upset snooty and cranky villagers.
