A mailbox from Animal Crossing: City Folk

In every Animal Crossing series game, a red Mailbox can be found outside the player's house. It is used as a place where letters from villagers from the player's town, a friend's town, the bellpoint, an item ordered from Tom Nook, the Happy Room Academy, the player's parents, and letters written by the player that have not yet been posted are stored. When a letter arrives, a blue signal with a small blinking letter will appear on the right-top of the mailbox. Even though a player can enter another player's house, only the owner of the house can open the mailbox of their home.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, letters can be found in a special part of the player's pockets by clicking a button at the top of the screen, but they must have been accessed here first. In all other versions, the mail is on the right-hand side in the pockets menu.

In Animal Crossing "Lets go to the City", Lyle from the Happy Room Academy will send you letters in your mailbox every Sunday but if you don't want him to for any reason, you can just go to the city on the bus then to the Happy Room academy then tell Lyle you don't want him to send you letters by going through the speech options. If you change your mind at any time, you can just go back and tell Lyle that you wan him to start sending you letters as usual. Even if you don't have letters being sent to you, you can go to the Happy Room Academy to get your room results.

A trailer for Template:AC3DS showed a house with a white mailbox; however, the next trailer released showed the standard red mailbox. It is unknown whether or not different colored mailboxes will be present in the game.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, there is a trophy of a player on the side of a mailbox, jumping with a happy face.
