Marcel is a lazy dog villager in the Animal Crossing series, who first appeared in Animal Crossing: City Folk. His name and phrase are French. "Non," (which means "no") is a mild joke on the French's way of speaking. It is stereotypically used at the end of questions e.g. "This shovel is used for digging up fossils, non?." He is probably named after Marcel Marceau, a known French mime and actor. Despite his mime-like appearance, his Japanese name and house theme are Asian based.

Marcel is a lazy villager, meaning he enjoys sleeping, eating, and leading a laid-back lifestyle. Despite this, Marcel also enjoys the usual hobbies and will get along with the player well. Additionally, he will get along with normal, peppy, and cranky villagers, the latter of which admire the laid-back life, but will also offend jock villagers, due to conflicting lifestyles; and snooty villagers, due to him not caring about himself appearance-wise.
