Mario Theme
The Mario Theme is a retro Mario-inspired furniture collection that first appeared in Animal Crossing. In this game the theme could only be obtained by inputting universal codes distributed by Nintendo Power magazine. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, the items did not appear in the catalog and had to be downloaded via tag mode at special Nintendo events. In City Folk the items appear in-game inside floating presents that can be shot down with a slingshot, though not all presents contain items from the Mario Theme. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, they are available as prizes from select fortune cookies. None of the Mario Theme items are orderable from the catalog.
The theme's items are styled in retro 8-bit fashion and are replicas of enemies, obstacles and power-ups from Nintendo's Mario games, specifically from the NES game Super Mario Bros. Unlike conventional items that have volume and shading that correspond to the light in the room, Mario items have independent shading and shadows that move with the item. All pieces of the Mario Theme sell for 256 Bells referencing the 256 values in 8-bit binary, zero through 255. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, however, these items were redesigned to resemble their modern appearance in New Super Mario Bros.. The Mario Theme has 10 or 12 non-furniture pieces, depending on the game, with four more items added to the original set in Wild World.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
On September 3, 2020, during the Super Mario Bros 35th Anniversary Nintendo Direct,[1] Nintendo announced that Super Mario furniture would be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March 2021.
Other Mario items
There are items that are related to Mario, but are not part of the theme. Some items can be obtained by normal means while the other items appear under certain circumstances. In Animal Crossing, there are also rare Mario and Luigi trophies. Mario is gold while Luigi is silver. Mario also gets referenced in a Pinball Machine and an Arcade Machine in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and City Folk. Also, the rare Famous Mushroom, when eaten, temporarily allows the player to grow giant. The Famous Mushroom sells for 16,000 Bells.
