Presents are a way of sending gifts such as furniture, flowers, and fruit to other villagers and players in the Animal Crossing series. The present initially appears as a white box with a red bow around it, and can be opened in the player's inventory.

Presents appear in various ways:

  • Floating on a balloon, which can be shot down with a slingshot (in Doubutsu no Mori and Animal Crossing, players must wait until it rests in a tree and then shake it)
  • Attached to a letter from a villager or the player's Parents.
  • As a delivery task on behalf of a villager, which appears in the player's inventory as a white box with a green bow (blue in Invalid parameters detected! Did you enter the wrong parameters, or are the parameters needed to generate this link empty?). They can be opened even though they're not intended for the player. However, doing this may cause the villager who gave the task to get angry or even take the item back the next time they are spoken to (if the errand hasn't expired).

Wrapping Paper

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the player can buy Wrapping Paper from the Nookling Stores to wrap a present. However, these wrapped items have a different appearance compared to regular presents.

Wrapped items can be given as gifts (useful for when a villager celebrates their birthday) or mailed with letters. When placed in a house, wrapped items fall on the floor instead of turning into furniture. With both the Environment Rating and the Happy Home Academy, they count as trash.

Initially, Timmy and Tommy would give an explanation about how to use the Wrapping Paper every time it was bought, but in the Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo update, they give the explanation only the first time the item is purchased.
