A common ramp

Ramps are a type of geography that appear in all Animal Crossing series games, except in Animal Crossing: Wild World, as the town is only one level, hence no cliffs or ramps. As its name implies, it connects the higher and lower parts of town. It is a vertical piece of land, usually covered in grass. Due to a ramp's steep slope, however, sport balls and snowballs are difficult to transport uphill since both easily roll down the ramp. Each town has two ramps, one on each side of town. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, ramps connect the town and the beach, and can be on the same side of town. Occasionally in Animal Crossing, players can get a town with four ramps.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, a new sideways-facing type of ramp is added. It appears on either the eastern or western side of town (the cliff side), and leads to the Campground, which is a major new addition run by Harvey.
