Mr. Resetti, the character who appears when an Animal Crossing series game is reset without saving
Don Resetti, who rarely appears and is much calmer than Mr. Resetti

Resetting is a gameplay mechanic utilized when the system is either turned off or its reset button is pressed, without the game saving. In all Animal Crossing series games before Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mr. Resetti appears when the player begins the play session after resetting, giving a long lecture on the cons of resetting the game. After multiple resets in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk or Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Don Resetti will appear in place of Mr. Resetti, who merely gives the player a warning rather than a full rant. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Resetti only appears once, unless the Resetti Surveillance Center public works project is built, at a cost of 368,000 Bells. Until the Center is built, Isabelle will take the place of Mr. Resetti and remind the player about saving when the game is reset.

The reset mechanic is not used in Animal Crossing: New Horizons due to the game's auto-save behavior. It is possible to quit the game without saving from the Nintendo Switch home screen to attempt to reset actions since the last auto-saved state, but there is no warning (from Resetti or otherwise) when the player begins their next session.
