Rio is a peppy ostrich villager in the Animal Crossing series. She appears in Doubutsu no Mori, Animal Crossing, Doubutsu no Mori e+, and returns in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Her English name, along with her Japanese name, De Janeiro (デジャネイロ), is likely a reference to the Brazilian city, Rio de Janeiro.

In New Horizons, Rio has the music hobby and may sing anywhere without the need of a stereo.

Appearance

Rio is a hot-red ostrich with orange stars on her cheeks, a little bit of brown hair on her head and a multicolored tail. She also wears purple eye shadow, making her resemble a snooty villager, even though she is instead a peppy villager. Her overall highly-decorated appearance, combined with her name, may be a reference to the dancers at the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
