Somebody is a special cat who appears only in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. They are a wooden puppet who can only appear as a temporary placeholder on the role selection screen for a facility for a removed villager invited via amiibo. When an amiibo villager is kicked out by dragging their icon to a door, their slot will be taken by Somebody. However, if Somebody is still present in a slot when confirming, they will be replaced by a random villager from Main Street.

  • Somebody has taken the place of several amiibo-invited villagers who were kicked out through the door, which Knox is going towards.
  • After confirming, every instance of Somebody has been replaced with a random villager, while Knox (who was not kicked out) remains.

Someone is a related character mentioned in several games, who used as a placeholder for the designer of custom patterns at Able Sisters, or mentioned by villagers to be the designer of their clothing. In Wild World, they are known as "someone from a town"; in City Folk, they are known as "Someone from Far Away"; in New Leaf, they are known as "Someone from Anytown"; and in New Horizons they are known as "someone from Anyisle."

Although their English name is different from the placeholder cat seen in Happy Home Designer, Someone and Somebody share the same name in the original Japanese and several other languages, most notably French which uses the pun name "Chépaki"[nb 1] instead of a direct translation of the word "someone." However, these names do vary between games (see #Names in other languages).

Trivia

  • Somebody's internal ID is puppet00. Models for two more apparently gendered versions of the Somebody puppet exist in Happy Home Designer's files, a blue-tinted version of the puppet (puppet01) and a pink-tinted version with eyelashes (puppet02). They have dummy "cloth" textures over where their clothes might go, despite the used brown Somebody model not wearing clothes. These models do not appear to be used in-game.
