Stationery, also referred to as paper (びんせん binsen?), is a gameplay element in the Animal Crossing series; its primary function is for letter writing, and for receiving items in the mail. It comes in packs of four, with a variety of different patterns and themes.

Stationery can be obtained in a number of ways:

If the player receives a letter written on previously unencountered stationery, the stationery will be automatically added to the player's catalog in Animal Crossing: Wild World. This also applies to stationery sent by special characters or the HRA. Although these types of stationery cannot be bought or written on, they will appear in the catalog.

A paper with a blue tiled border and a metal plughole in the upper-right corner, designed to evoke a bathroom floor. The centre of the paper is designed to look as though it is set into the tiles. Drops of water are also scattered across the sheet.

Egyptian Paper Tom Nook's 160 Bells Written on paper styled to look like ancient papyrus, the Egyptian paper has symbols running across the top of the page that are designed to look like Hieroglyphs, and a reversed copy of the same pattern along the bottom. The lines on which the letter is written are form by one long snake symbol.
