Talk:Prerelease and unused content

Something about the name of this article bugs me. I think "Unused items" or "Debugging items" is a better name than the misleading "beta items" term. Does anyone else have a say? ™ 20:32, July 30, 2014 (EDT)

Yeah "Unused items" or "Pre-release items" is a much better word to describe such than "beta", which is simply a specific state a game is in -Baby Luigi(Talk to me?) 20:33, July 30, 2014 (EDT)

I think beta items is pretty accurate for ACGC but I don't really know about the other games. I say that because there are 'beta acres' that were discovered for ACGC so I imagine if people were to search for information on that topic they would search for 'beta'-something. "Beta" is actually a colloquial, but incorrect term as a blanket definition for elements that are not accessible by normal means, but are present in the coding. There are several development builds in the game; to be short and to the point, it's a concept first, but it becomes a rather buggy "alpha", and then it becomes a beta build. There's no way knowing if these items are derived from a beta, alpha, or whatever build, though, so "beta" items can be a misnomer. ™ 22:36, July 30, 2014 (EDT)

In the case of ACGC, regardless of development stage, I know that 'beta acres' are what they are known as to the community, so I assume that's what a user would search for. (Again, I don't know any popular terms used for other games.) You can change the article name to whatever, just redirect to it from 'beta items'. --sunmarsh (talk) 00:28, July 31, 2014 (EDT)
