"Gameplay modification" sounds like a more appropriate term for this article. The current title seems a bit exaggerated though that might just be my general unfamiliarity with what technically classifies as hacking. That said, I feel as though the proposed title would properly encompass any type or amount of modding.  Senor Mexicano (talk) 02:12, February 7, 2022 (EST)

:Support - Hacking is definitely an informal, community term. I think Gameplay modification is more appropriate, with something like "Gameplay modification, or hacking,..." in the intro of the new page to acknowledge the common use of the informal term. Also best to turn this page into a redirect. Deletion[edit]

Closed as keep, with the understanding that rewriting + expansion is needed. Whether or not hacking is a topic that should be covered at all would be a separate discussion for a broader change in policy. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 13:21, June 9, 2022 (EDT)

Do we need this article? Mario Signature.png 20:12, July 20, 2015 (EDT)

I vote we tag it for deletion. 'Hackers' doesn't really relate to Animal Crossing at all; they are but a sub-community of players. What they do and how they do it in Animal Crossing is certainly worth writing about, but that's another topic/article. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 20:35, July 20, 2015 (EDT)
Yeah, and this is a very, very broad topic. As much as I like people to discuss about modding and game exploits in these games, this may be beyond our scope, especially in the main space. Mario Signature.png 20:47, July 20, 2015 (EDT)
A very broad topic it may be, but perhaps a move to 'Hackers in Animal Crossing' or something similar may be feasible, together with a complete rewrite of the article. Although in that case, it would be easier to delete the current article and create a new one... Red (talk) Red Snapper WW Sprite.png 11:32, July 21, 2015 (EDT)
The content here doesn't satisfy me. The article talks only about "Hackers exist and do these things". It really makes me wonder if keeping content like that is really worth it. What do you suppose can be more useful content? Mario Signature.png 17:29, July 21, 2015 (EDT)
Not sure. Maybe what they actually do in the Animal Crossing series may be slightly useful, together with a larger overview of the tools they use, but I'm not entirely convinced. Red (talk) Red Snapper WW Sprite.png 09:07, July 22, 2015 (EDT)
I am also in Support Support of an article rewrite. This page has always been out of place, yet nobody wanted to do anything with it. In terms of future use, we could add a section onto each game's page detailing the hacks used in each game. ~PoizonMushro0mPoizonMush Sig.png 01:20, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Hackers can be in other Nintendo series or even out of the series it should be deleted. Princess Peach (talk) 11:05, May 5, 2016 (EDT)
It gives a heads up with what hackers can do, What I recommend is to show pics of what cities may look like - unsigned comment from Izayd (talkcontribs)
Revisiting after all these years - I don't think the page hurts to have, though I agree it's lacking in information (tools, possibilities, etc.) and needs work. I'm in favor of keeping it, with perhaps a name change from Hackers to Hacking since the article is more about the action than the individuals. I'm also not a huge fan of the word hackers - maybe modding, or game altering? ~SuperHamster Talk 12:44, March 21, 2019 (EDT)
Voting to delete. This article, as well as Hacked Distributed Items and Villager modifier, constitute non-official information regarding the Animal Crossing series. Non-canon and non-official information do not deserve to be part of Nookipedia; however, consider that this is according to my personal opinion and may be contrary to Nookipedia:Cheat policy.
A similar argument regarding deletion could be made for Chestnut, who is non-canon, but she is still part of the game (i.e., its code), even if she does not appear. >Decomposer Emotion Icon - Curiosity (NL) cropped.png Emotion Icon - Pride (NL) cropped.png 06:25, March 22, 2019 (EDT)
Yeah, according to current policy this article is pretty safe (it of course needs a lot of work). However, given that content about hacking is unofficial information as Decomposer stated, maybe we should change the cheat policy. But that's for a separate discussion. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 11:27, March 22, 2019 (EDT)

Based on the above discussion that lasted eons, and with Decomposer removing the deletion tag from the page, I think it's appropriate to say the discussion has been closed as keep, with the understanding that rewriting + expansion is needed. Whether or not hacking is a topic that should be covered at all would be a broader change in policy, which, if someone wants to pursue, is a conversation that should take place at the Community Fountain. ~SuperHamster Talk 02:23, June 5, 2019 (EDT)

Move from Hackers to Hacking[edit]

Decomposer proposed that the page be moved to Hacking. Just making this section to express that I support the move (the page is about the action of hacking, not the hackers themselves). Pretty uncontroversial move that I think can be done within 24 hours if no one objects. ~SuperHamster Talk 02:28, June 5, 2019 (EDT)

This is now done. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 11:07, June 6, 2019 (EDT)

Move to Gameplay modification?[edit]

"Gameplay modification" sounds like a more appropriate term for this article. The current title seems a bit exaggerated though that might just be my general unfamiliarity with what technically classifies as hacking. That said, I feel as though the proposed title would properly encompass any type or amount of modding. Senor Mexicano (talk) 02:12, February 7, 2022 (EST)

Support Support - Hacking is definitely an informal, community term. I think Gameplay modification is more appropriate, with something like "Gameplay modification, or hacking,..." in the intro of the new page to acknowledge the common use of the informal term. Also best to turn this page into a redirect. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 11:11, February 13, 2022 (EST)
Support Support - Would not be opposed to this change, provided that a redirect is left behind for those more familiar with the informal term. --Jake (talk) 11:59, February 13, 2022 (EST)
Support Support - The term is definitely much more broad and formal. The Messenger(talk) 12:08, February 13, 2022 (EST)
