Pocket Camp Info

Should information on the Gigas Giant Clam in PC be added here? In PC, it was available for a limited time as part of a shell collecting event, and it's a shell rather than a fish or sea creature, even though it is practically identical to the one in NH. I see that other shells do not get their own pages, and there isn't a template for them, so I'm not sure how to go about adding it to this page, if it even makes sense to do so. I did go ahead and put the icon in the gallery, but wasn't sure about whether to put it on this main page or not. ~ Poppliopal (talk) 16:28, November 27, 2020 (EST)

Now that I think about it, the sea star, turban shell, sea urchin, and clam are in a similar position, where they have all been sea creatures in a main game but appeared for at least some time in PC as a shell ~ Poppliopal (talk) 16:35, November 27, 2020 (EST)

I think since it's clearly the same creature, it should go here, even if it's a shell rather than a sea creature. Okay. Should the icon be included? I'm not sure what way makes the most sense to display it, without interfering with the info template or the next section. If I try to use the Clear template it makes the next section also avoid the infobox template, rather than just the image. ~ Poppliopal (talk) 17:08, November 27, 2020 (EST)

I think a left-aligned thumbnail would be good. If the icon is on the left, you can use {{Clear|left}} so it only moves things that are in its way on the left side, so it won't affect the infobox. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 17:17, November 27, 2020 (EST)

The appearances section of the template works by checking to see if the page in question is a designated category, and will highlight the corresponding game(s) accordingly. In this case, the pages in question should be placed in Category:Pocket Camp sea creatures. While this category name may not be entirely accurate, the alternative is to modify {{Infobox Sea Creature}} and {{Infobox 2.0}} to allow for a custom category name for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. I also want to note here that we may need to add some of the sea creature pages to the appropriate HHD category as it would seem that game does include some of the creatures (See:Category:Happy Home Designer sea creature sprites). I've gone ahead and added this page (Gigas Giant Clam) to the appropriate PC category as an example if you'd like to add the rest. (talk) 19:05, December 3, 2020 (EST)

ah okay that makes sense! Should this category replace corresponding fish categories on pages where the creature appears as a fish in some games? Or should it just be a supplement to get the info box to work, and leave the fish category so that it can remain in the right place for organizational purposes? One example that immediately comes to mind is the lobster, which was in CF first, as a fish, then NL (and I think also HHD), as a sea creature, back again as a fish in PC, then NH as a sea creature. As it is right now the info box can only display NL and NH. But at the same time if you want to look at all the fish in CF, it seems like it should be there since that is how it is categorized in game, and there was no category of sea creatures yet at all. So should it be labeled as a fish AND a sea creature for CF and PC? ~ Poppliopal (talk) 21:26, December 3, 2020 (EST)

Thanks so much for your question/bringing this to my attention. I didn't realize the problem was more widespread. I've gone ahead and updated template {{Infobox Sea Creature}} and template {{Infobox 2.0}} to allow for custom categories for City Folk and Pocket Camp. I've updated the Lobster page's Infobox as an example of the new functionality. This means that we can also properly designate the Gigas Giant Clam as a 'shell' in PC and add it to Category:Pocket Camp shells if you feel that category is better. If we’re creating a category for PC shells, should individual shells get their own pages? So far there are just the 5 PC shells that are main game sea creatures that appear on their own pages apart from Shells, but if this is something it makes sense to have as separate pages I could try to work on that as well! ~ Poppliopal (talk) 16:48, December 15, 2020 (EST)
