Question

Can you use a key to lock your house - unsigned comment from Lachlanrichards (talkcontribs)

No, you can't. You just give it to the villagers that has been locked out of his/her house.--Internetakias' (talk)' 04:35, 9 August 2011 (EDT)

but why dose it sa "im locked out" at the civic center - unsigned comment from Lachlanrichards (talkcontribs)

If you put so much stuff in your house that you can't even move around, you can go to the Civic Center and say "I'm locked out" to have them help you. It's kind of a useless feature, considering you can just pick up the items that are in your way. --Jake 11:35, 30 October 2011 (EDT)

Merge with Lost item

Following a request for merge and these two attempts, this page has been merged with Lost item#Key, although I'm having qualms with doing so, since keys in CF aren't really lost items in NL. I've mitigated this by stating "While lost items have not appeared outside of New Leaf, the key in City Folk is seen as a precursor to this mechanic." I'll be changing Key as a redirect. >DecomposerEmotion Icon - Curiosity (NL) cropped.pngEmotion Icon - Pride (NL) cropped.png 23:28, January 12, 2020 (EST)

Personally, I'm opposed to the merge and would prefer it if this change was reversed. Maybe I've been looking too much at the poor job that's been done of the merge, but there's too many differences between keys and lost items. You don't have to fish lost items out of the river, for instance. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 13:15, January 13, 2020 (EST)
I would lean towards merging, although we ought to wait for a third opinion before keeping the merge or reverting it. It was sunmarsh who requested the merge so I think they may have second thoughts due to what you've said. >DecomposerEmotion Icon - Curiosity (NL) cropped.pngEmotion Icon - Pride (NL) cropped.png 22:47, January 13, 2020 (EST)
I agree that the process of finding a key in City Folk is different than finding a lost item in New Leaf, but both of them are fetch quests for missing items. My main reasoning for merging the pages was an attempt to group together very short pages that contain similar information. I think that this page would benefit from an intro paragraph that talks generally about about lost items in the Animal Crossing series and then talks specifically about 'Lost key in City Folk' and 'Lost items in New Leaf'. I'll try and add this in the next few days and you can tell me what you think, Drago. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 13:33, January 14, 2020 (EST)
Alrighty, I've made the edits, let me know what you all think. Also Lost Item should probably be moved to Lost item. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 23:20, January 16, 2020 (EST)
Looks a lot better now. Thanks! Regarding your suggestion, that may run against Nookipedia:Manual of Style#Capitalization, since Lost Item is, strictly speaking, an item in New Leaf similar to the items in Handheld items. >DecomposerEmotion Icon - Curiosity (NL) cropped.pngEmotion Icon - Pride (NL) cropped.png 01:22, January 17, 2020 (EST)
