Actually she does look like sailor venus. The other users(including me) who put the sailor moon reference in the page are right. Do you watch the sailor moon anime? I do, and I think they look similar. You don't think they look similar probably because you're not looking hard enough. To me, sailor venus's hair is a bit like mira's fur and....trol?

I'm gonna bump this again since it looks like it was discussed and removed multiple times, and I think I have more substantial evidence for her being a ''Sailor Moon'' reference (or maybe more specifically a ''Sailor V'' reference). If nothing else, this could be a trivia point rather than a substantial part of the body, but I believe it's worth noting.

#Mira is themed after the "moon rabbit" legend (her home is themed after a moon base, and her catchphrase has "moon" in it) and combines that with a superhero aesthetic. If either of these were standalone, I would be more willing to write it off as a coincidence, but there is only one "moon rabbit superhero", Sailor Moon. Her real name is literally "Tsukino Usagi" (moon rabbit), and she's called "Bunny" or "Buns" in certain translations.
 +
#Mira's color scheme more closely resembles the red, blue, and yellow color scheme of [https://i.imgur.com/hwFg8Hu.jpg Sailor V] (Sailor Venus's original superhero alterego) than the orange color scheme of Sailor Venus. The most striking resemblance comes from her red mask; it's the exact same shape and color. The "Zap Suit" in ''New Leaf'' also more closely resembles the classic ''Sailor V'' / ''Sailor Moon'' uniform.
 +
#Mira's Japanese name, Mirako, is one character off from Sailor V / Sailor Venus's Japanese name, Minako. It was brought up earlier that one character in Japanese is a more substantial difference than one letter in English, but it's still only one character (ミラコ versus ミナコ). It's also noteworthy that the Italian translation appears to have picked up on this and named Mira "Martina", which is a diminutive form of "Marta", Sailor Venus's Italian dub name.

The other similarities listed above are likely to be huge stretches, but these ones are what I believe to be more definitive connections to the original source. Let me know what you think. [[User:StrawberryChan|StrawberryChan]] ([[User talk:StrawberryChan|talk]]) 23:06, January 4, 2021 (EST)

I've always wondered what her English name origin is. I looked up the given name Mira and found a bunch of origins along with my own idea.
 +
* It could be taken from "miraculous", which would fit with her being a superhero (or at least, dressed as one).
 +
* In the romance languages, it means "wonder" or "wonderful", which would also fit the superhero theming.
 +
* In South Slavic languages, it means "peace". Again, superheroes strive for peace.
 +
* In Albanian, it means "goodness" or "kindness".
 +
*  In Hebrew, it is a derivative of Miriam or the female equivalent of Meir, meaning light. Superheroes bring light, in a sense.
 +
* It's also the name of a red giant star. Not sure what relevance it has to her though. (Maybe she's from space? [Though that might be a stretch.])

Sailor Moon reference

Personally I do not think this reference should be in this article, but I'd like to generate some discussion first to see if a decision can be reached - should the reference be in there or not? I do not want to continue this 'edit war'. Red Snapper 11:27, September 24, 2014 (EDT)

I see it as a plausible theory. My vote is to include the information using the theory template or note it as a possible (but not definite) allusion to the Sailor Moon franchise. --sunmarsh (talk) 11:54, September 24, 2014 (EDT)
The connections are stretching it and verging on speculation. I'd advise against using {{theory}}, especially if such existence of the template is questionable, as it contradicts with our general disclaimer ("Although we have a policy to leave speculation out of articles, we can not guarantee the accuracy of any content posted on the wiki. We do our best to remove speculative content as it is found.").
Anyway, here are the arguments the user has provided. My thoughts.
  1. She's yellow and Sailor Venus is blonde.
    1. The connection is way too loose to qualify.
  2. Her boots, mask, and gloves are orange, which is Sailor Venus' signiture[sic] color.
    1. They both have orange highlights on their clothing, but that alone doesn't qualify. Mira needs shirt that's blue at the bottom, and it has a red ribbon-like design on her chest, and bam I'll be convinced it's a Sailor Moon reference. But she doesn't have the attire.
  3. Her mask has a striking resemblance to the Sailor Venus' mask during the time she was Sailor V
    1. That's the only thing that is close to qualifying, but even then, the only similarities the two masks share is their color.
  4. Mira is named Mirako in Japan, which is VERY similar to Minako (Sailor Venus' name)
    1. If you understand the Japanese language, "ra" and "na" are two completely different syllables, and there are syllables made of "a" noises e.g. a ka sa na ta ma ra wa ya). Two similar Japanese names, therefore, are not connected with each other.
  5. Her starting shirt is rather similar to that of Sailor Venus' fuku
    1. Close, but not close enough. Besides, it DOES match her mask and give that superhero vibe she's supposed to have.
  6. Her home is full of Astro furniture. First it is Orange and White, which is the color's of Sailor Venus' fuku. Plus Astro is a space theme.
    1. It's Astro furniture because it matches her initial clothing AND her Japanese catchphrase. Astro furniture is a natural fit for Mira.
  7. In Japan her catchphrase references the moon
    1. So? That doesn't mean it's related to Sailor Moon. I need more proof.
  8. The Sailor Moon series was inspired by the legend of the Rabbit of the Moon
    1. Mira's catchphrase could be inspired by the Rabbit of the Moon legend as well, but just because two things are inspired from a popular legend doesn't mean they're necessarily connected.
  9. The creator of Sailor Moon is Naoko Takeuchi
    1. Mira's personality and that Takeuchi have uchi is mere coincidence, especially considering how "uchi" is common in Japanese names in general.
  10. The Red Star on the back of her head is similar to Venus' bow.
    1. Again, not at all.

All of these connections are extremely loose, even when put together. In the end, Mira is just a yellow rabbit wearing orange super hero clothing and a mask (which super heroes often wear anyway). That's how I see it. Mario Signature.png 03:13, October 10, 2014 (EDT)

I agree with Mario, I can't quite see the references. I think your overthinking things. Like naoko takeUCHI?That doesn't seem like it's a reference. --MarcusSignature.jpg 16:52, October 10, 2014 (EDT)
