Sailor Moon reference

Personally I do not think this reference should be in this article, but I'd like to generate some discussion first to see if a decision can be reached - should the reference be in there or not? I do not want to continue this 'edit war'. Red Snapper 11:27, September 24, 2014 (EDT)

I see it as a plausible theory. My vote is to include the information using the theory template or note it as a possible (but not definite) allusion to the Sailor Moon franchise. --sunmarsh (talk) 11:54, September 24, 2014 (EDT)
The connections are stretching it and verging on speculation. I'd advise against using {{theory}}, especially if such existence of the template is questionable, as it contradicts with our general disclaimer ("Although we have a policy to leave speculation out of articles, we can not guarantee the accuracy of any content posted on the wiki. We do our best to remove speculative content as it is found.").
Anyway, here are the arguments the user has provided. My thoughts.
  1. She's yellow and Sailor Venus is blonde.
    1. The connection is way too loose to qualify.
  2. Her boots, mask, and gloves are orange, which is Sailor Venus' signiture[sic] color.
    1. They both have orange highlights on their clothing, but that alone doesn't qualify. Mira needs shirt that's blue at the bottom, and it has a red ribbon-like design on her chest, and bam I'll be convinced it's a Sailor Moon reference. But she doesn't have the attire.
  3. Her mask has a striking resemblance to the Sailor Venus' mask during the time she was Sailor V
    1. That's the only thing that is close to qualifying, but even then, the only similarities the two masks share is their color.
  4. Mira is named Mirako in Japan, which is VERY similar to Minako (Sailor Venus' name)
    1. If you understand the Japanese language, "ra" and "na" are two completely different syllables, and there are syllables made of "a" noises e.g. a ka sa na ta ma ra wa ya). Two similar Japanese names, therefore, are not connected with each other.
  5. Her starting shirt is rather similar to that of Sailor Venus' fuku
    1. Close, but not close enough. Besides, it DOES match her mask and give that superhero vibe she's supposed to have.
  6. Her home is full of Astro furniture. First it is Orange and White, which is the color's of Sailor Venus' fuku. Plus Astro is a space theme.
    1. It's Astro furniture because it matches her initial clothing AND her Japanese catchphrase. Astro furniture is a natural fit for Mira.
  7. In Japan her catchphrase references the moon
    1. So? That doesn't mean it's related to Sailor Moon. I need more proof.
  8. The Sailor Moon series was inspired by the legend of the Rabbit of the Moon
    1. Mira's catchphrase could be inspired by the Rabbit of the Moon legend as well, but just because two things are inspired from a popular legend doesn't mean they're necessarily connected.
  9. The creator of Sailor Moon is Naoko Takeuchi
    1. Mira's personality and that Takeuchi have uchi is mere coincidence, especially considering how "uchi" is common in Japanese names in general.
  10. The Red Star on the back of her head is similar to Venus' bow.
    1. Again, not at all.

All of these connections are extremely loose, even when put together. In the end, Mira is just a yellow rabbit wearing orange super hero clothing and a mask (which super heroes often wear anyway). That's how I see it. Mario Signature.png 03:13, October 10, 2014 (EDT)

I agree with Mario, I can't quite see the references. I think your overthinking things. Like naoko takeUCHI?That doesn't seem like it's a reference. --MarcusSignature.jpg 16:52, October 10, 2014 (EDT)

I do not agree with mario. --50.136.149.237 00:10, December 20, 2014 (EST)

Do you know about this? http://www.deviantart.com/art/Minako-and-Mirako-385020363 .Look at them closer. --50.136.149.237 22:50, December 27, 2014 (EST)

Someone's fan art (as nice as that is!) is hardly worth noting when deciding on a resemblance. ~SuperHamster Talk 04:22, December 28, 2014 (EST)

Actually she does look like Sailor Venus. The other users(including me) who put the sailor moon reference in the page are right. Do you watch the sailor moon anime? I do, and I think they look similar. You don't think they look similar probably because you're not looking hard enough. To me, Sailor Venus's hair is a bit like Mira's fur and....trol? --50.136.149.237 17:20, December 28, 2014 (EST)

Oh, I saw the fan art, the resemblance is a stretch. Every single "evidence" I've seen that's supposed to be a resemblance sounds like a case of confirmation bias. Did you also take note that the fan art is inspired by the information from this wiki? Right in the fanart's description: "I discover by Wiki that her design was inspired on sailor venus.^" Mario Signature.png 17:25, January 6, 2015 (EST)

Yeah but she actually does look like sailor venus. I think it should be in the article, but I don't wanna add it because i don't wanna get blocked! --50.136.149.237 16:54, January 9, 2015 (EST)

Villager
