Tom Nook (たぬきち, Tanukichi), except in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, where he owns Nook's Homes, owns the town shop in Animal Crossing series. After the player buys or sells certain amounts of money in his shop, he will expand his shop, after which a larger range of items will be available to the player each day. Once his shop reaches its final expansion, Nookington's department store, he will employ the services of Timmy and Tommy, his nephews, who work on the second floor, and, if playing Wild World, Harriet, who is the proprietor of Shampoodle, a hair salon. Although he appears to be a raccoon, he is actually a tanuki, a Japanese raccoon dog that is commonly mistaken or translated to raccoon.

After the player moves into town, in all games excluding New Leaf, Tom Nook takes the player under his wing and has the player work part-time at his shop to pay off their debt.

Physical Appearance

Being a raccoon, Tom Nook has a large bushy tail and a predominantly brown coat of fur, with his belly colored white; he also possesses pink round ears and navy blue eyes, which are oval shaped. His most characteristic feature, however, is the dark brown patch of fur surrounding his eyes, reminiscent of a bandit's mask.

Unlike the majority of the special characters in the series, most of whom only possess one outfit, Tom Nooks outfits himself in a large variety of attire. Some of his apparel corresponds with the upgrade level of his shop -with each uniform befitting the charactestics of the store in which it is worn - or, in New Leaf's case, his job occupation. Others are only donned during special events.

As the proprietor of Nook's Cranny, Tom Nook wears a blue apron with a leaf, the symbol of the series, stitched in its center. He dons a red, white, and blue shirt and a matching hat as the owner of Nook 'n' Go - which resembles a convenience store, and an apron similar to those worn by grocers, marked by an orange leaf, serves as his uniform when he manages Nookway. Finally, when Tom Nook's store expands into a two story department store known as Nookington's, the ambitious raccoon dresses himself in a blue suit with a red tie.

In New Leaf, now a real estate agent, Tom Nook presents himself in a more proper, cleaner manner, wearing blank pants and a green sweater vest over a white shirt with a red tie. On the left side of the sweater vest is a pocket protecter holding a pen. Whenever Tom Nook ventures outside of his business (e.g., when he helps the player determine the site their house will be built upon), he dons a yellow jacket.

Dream Home in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Tom Nook is featured as an integral part of the Villager's Final Smash, Dream Home, in which he and his two nephews, Timmy and Tommy, are paid by the Villager to construct a house around the targeted opponent. Kicks (シャンク, Shyanku, Shank) is a skunk who appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Physical Appearance

Being a skunk, Kicks has black and white fur and a large, bushy tail. He has dark purple eyes and a light pink nose. His apparel includes a brown hat and brown suspenders.

In New Leaf, he is outfitted in a white dress shirt, along with a brown hat, and brown suspenders.

Appearances

City Folk

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Kicks makes his living off of shining shoes in the city, outside a run-down building, on fair weather days. According to a number of animals, he is so good at shining shoes that some animals that enlist his services are unsure if they're wearing the same shoes as when he began.

Once a day, the player can pay 500 Bells to Kicks to shine their shoes,[1] changing the color of the shoes to match the player's hair or outfit. However, pattern-made shirts will change the player's shoes to their default color. If the shoes do not change colors, Kicks will not charge for his services. There are a select number of shoe patterns that match each hair and outfit combo. Additionally, Kicks will sometimes give the player the option to have a masculine shine or a feminine shine.

New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Kicks is the proprietor of Kicks, which will be built on Main Street after the player has spent 8,000 Bells at the Able Sisters and has lived in the town for 10 days. After completing the following requirements, the shop will begin construction and will complete in three days.

Upon entering the footwear shop for the first time, Kicks will introduce himself to the player and ask them to have a look around at the shop's wares, including various types of shoes and socks.[2]. Upon selecting one of the footwear on display, Kicks will give the player the option to buy it or try it on first.
