Villager House Interiors

First of all, thank you for your work adding and editing the screenshots of NH villager interiors. I wanted to bring to your attention though, the proper way to fill out the 'Source' field in the File Info template. It is admittedly confusing and not entirely consistent. So if the user who took the screenshot uploaded it, then the source should be 'Nintendo Switch native screenshot'. If the user who uploads the image is not the one who captured it, the source should be linked in order to attribute the original creator. I've gone ahead and fixed some of your past edits to correct this (at a certain point I gave up lol), but I would appreciate it if you followed the format outlined above going forward. Thanks! Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 14:22, October 10, 2020 (EDT)

I feel like including the attributor even if it's a Nookipedia user is important because a lot of the screenshots were stolen without credit, but I understand and will make those changes. HylianAngel (talk) 16:27, October 10, 2020 (EDT)
Like most of the screenshots uploaded by User:DavidVi11aronga and User:Ocre don't belong to them, and they don't specify they don't belong to them or what the source is. And I can't find the sources for many of them. So by differentiating the screenshots that actually belong to specific Nookipedia users, it would distinguish it from the stolen ones. HylianAngel (talk) 16:34, October 10, 2020 (EDT)
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't realize that the photos had come from external sources and had not been properly credited. I've created a new category (Category:Improperly sourced images) that you can place on these pages so that we can either properly document their original source, or replace them. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 21:19, October 10, 2020 (EDT)
Thank you, I'll put screenshots of unknown sources mostly uploaded by User:DavidVi11aronga in that category. HylianAngel (talk) 22:47, October 10, 2020 (EDT)
Just letting you know that files not taken by the uploader (e.g. ones found on Twitter) do not need "Nintendo Switch native screenshot". The source parameter should be where you, the uploader, got the file from, rather than how or where the person you got it from got it from (unless they got it from a publicly accessible link, in which case you can just cut out the middle man and get it from there directly). Additionally, the method in which the user captured the image cannot be fully confirmed. So if you took the screenshot yourself using the Switch's native screenshot feature, then you put that, but if it came from somewhere else, then a link to where you got it from is all that is needed. Also, leaving the source parameter blank now automatically adds the file to Category:Files without a source, so that should be done rather than tagging it with Category:Improperly sourced images or entering "from an unknown user". Hope this helps, and sorry for any misunderstanding! ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 00:16, October 12, 2020 (EDT)
Almost all of the Twitter Nintendo Switch screenshots are auto-generated to have the "#AnimalCrossing #ACNH" tags, and they have a resolution size of 1280 x 720. While this is possible to fake, there is no motive for this, and these are decidedly more verifiable than the majority of the Nookipedia users who have uploaded and already cropped their house interior images without specifying that they were the original photo-taker. Under this strain of logic where only the uploader can verify that they uploaded a Nintendo Switch native screenshot, "native Nintendo Switch screenshot" would need to be removed from almost every house image, and not just the externally-linked ones, because only User:Ocre, User:Trainiax, and User:Vmario97 have specified on a couple of occasions that it was a "self screenshot," and not necessarily specifying the method of capture. This would result in having all self-uploaded screenshots that can't be determined to be Nintendo Switch native screenshots, and screenshots un-sourced by User:DavidVi11aronga, mixed together. I know that User:DavidVi11aronga does not own most of these images, because I was the one who had to reverse-Google search many of them to find the original source from various locations such as Twitter, Fandom wiki, and The Bell Tree Forums. I know that the other Nookipedia uploaders (who aren't User:DavidVi11aronga) are the original owners of their screenshots by cross-referencing with their contribution history and comparing what their player character looks like in the various screenshots they've uploaded, or comparing shared social media accounts, or viewing their profiles to see what characters live in their town. Anyways, I just want a method to distinguish the un-sourced images from the stolen ones with a consistent framework of rules. Most of the images did not have a proper file description by the original uploader, and now that I've been fixing them and doing my best to add missing sources, the rules for this that don't exist have changed a second time. If I can have that framework set in stone, and if I can have a way to distinguish the stolen images, I'll be fine with returning to mass-fixing the images. But the ruleset of "only the original uploader can specify it was a native Nintendo Switch screenshot" is not good for me because of what I explained earlier with how that will mix in the images with the stolen ones, and I have to make an assumption with most of the self-uploaded images. Hopefully that makes sense. HylianAngel (talk) 00:57, October 12, 2020 (EDT)

Text replacement

Hey Hylian - thanks for all your work on villager pages and screenshots so far. I see you're in the middle of updating source text. I'm not sure if you're using an automated tool for this, but if you happen to be doing it manually, just a heads up that any of the staff are happy to run a mass-text replacement for you if you would like (you can request at either the staff noticeboard or on our Discord if you're on it). Cheers, ~SuperHamster Talk 17:10, October 12, 2020 (EDT)

I'm just doing it manually for the houses that I've already "double-checked." Basically I've been double-checking the furniture lists with the datamined lists to make sure the colors are correct and that there are no missing pieces of furniture, then I check to see if there are any better-quality screenshots floating around the internet (or if I have the means to grab my own screenshots in my copy of New Horizons). Then I move on to the next house. I haven't double-checked too many houses yet, and also I'm only changing the text (native Nintendo Switch screenshot -> screenshot) for houses that I know have a confirmed "vague" status for the method of screenshot capture. None of the uploaders I've noticed so far have ever specified it was a "native Nintendo Switch screenshot," so the only screenshots I can confirm that have that capture method are my own screenshots. I also don't want to add the text "screenshot" to the screenshots that were uploaded without a source to the original creator. I know I can do this correctly manually, and a tool might not know to exclude my screenshots and the stolen screenshots. HylianAngel (talk) 17:16, October 12, 2020 (EDT)
Also during the "double-checking," I try to find sources for the screenshots uploaded by User:DavidVi11aronga, but most of the time, I can't find the source. HylianAngel (talk) 17:19, October 12, 2020 (EDT)
Ah gotcha, thanks for the info + all your work on this. It's much appreciated. ~SuperHamster Talk 23:35, October 12, 2020 (EDT)
No problem, glad that I can help in this small way. HylianAngel (talk) 00:01, October 13, 2020 (EDT)

Staff?

Thanks for all your work so far! Just want to ask; do you have any interest in being on the staff? You've been a consistent, impressive editor and I think you'd be an ideal candidate for patroller tools. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks! Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 13:53, November 7, 2020 (EST)

Thank you, I really appreciate the offer. While it would be nice to have that role to have convenient access to deleting wiki pages and using the rollback feature. I only plan to fix the furniture lists for all of the villagers to the best of my extent. After that, I'll most likely not make any further edits. Thank you very much though. HylianAngel (talk) 15:40, November 7, 2020 (EST)
Ah, no problem! Thanks for all your work here; it certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 10:50, November 8, 2020 (EST)

NH house template update

Hey there! I finished splitting a new Template:NHHouse from Template:House Info, and have updated all NH villager articles with it. This should resolve most (if not all) of the image display errors we were seeing from expensive parser function calls.

This new template also supports furniture count (f#-count), as well as furniture variation and/or pattern (f#-variation, f#-pattern). Furniture images will also be auto-populated based on the specified variation/pattern (if an f#-img is not specified). I've updated Eunice so we can see this all in action. Let me know if you think there are any issues or would like to see any changes to this new implementation.

I know you've been hard at work specifying the correct variation images for furniture across all the villager articles - and by no means are you obligated to go back again and update everything a second time! Just wanted to let you know about these new changes moving forward. ~SuperHamster Talk 03:37, November 24, 2020 (EST)

Thanks for letting me know about the new template. So far the only NH house furniture lists I haven't fixed start with the letters in A/B/C, but I'll use this style from now onward. The only things I have to comment on is that the new template seems slightly wider than the normal "House Info" template, so when looking at a list of houses, they aren't all right-aligned anymore. And also I'm so used to the tiny furniture icon not being hyperlinked that it's a little weird they are hyperlinked now (but I'm neutral with having either style). If I think of anything else, I'll let you know, but it looks like the new template works great. HylianAngel (talk) 03:59, November 24, 2020 (EST)
Oh yeah, this was an earlier problem, but basically, any pages that link to fish or K.K. Slider songs will have a red hyperlink since they don't exist. Pages like Wade and Chief. If there was a way to fix that, that would be really useful. HylianAngel (talk) 04:26, November 24, 2020 (EST)
Great, thanks for the feedback! Regarding the wider width, I was experimenting with it so that long furniture names would fit better. I've reverted it, at least for now, since it does overextend on some smaller phone screens. And thanks for pointing out fish and songs - I added an f#-link parameter that lets use override the link (example in action on Wade). ~SuperHamster Talk 01:28, November 28, 2020 (EST)
Thank you, I love this new link-overriding feature. HylianAngel (talk) 03:04, November 28, 2020 (EST)

Joke Quiz

Did you change Special characters stuff? (Thinking was a "Project Special character")- unsigned comment from RDash75 Nook (talkcontribs)

Yep, I changed a bunch of stuff on the special character pages. When attempting to insert RV info and HHD info, I ran into a lot of issues with inconsistent header formatting, so I just went ahead and renamed and reorganized a bunch of headers on each page. And then when I was specifically inserting the HHD info, I noticed that the quotes on most of the pages were the quotes from their framed pictures, but the quote sources were not consistently formatted plus not consistent with the game origins, so I just mass-updated those to be consistent as well. There's no Project Villager equivalent called Project Special Villager, I just used my best judgement. HylianAngel (talk) 16:20, November 30, 2020 (EST)

Welcome amiibo furniture images

Thank you for your recent Welcome amiibo furniture uploads, they are much appreciated. One thing I noticed is that they only include "NL" in the file name, whereas we generally use "NLWa" when referring to content that is exclusive to Welcome amiibo. Additionally, our standard for furniture screenshots appends "Model" to the end (e.g. Banana Flower Basket NLWa Model.png). The reason why the existing Welcome amiibo images don't use this is that no standard was set until our uploads of GameCube item images a few months ago. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 21:43, January 6, 2021 (EST)

I knew the images were from the Welcome amiibo update, but I figured at the time I would follow the outdated existing naming convention for consistency. Thank you for letting me know about the appropriate naming standard, I'll make sure to do that from now on. HylianAngel (talk) 23:09, January 6, 2021 (EST)
Also feel free to overwrite any of my NLWa model images with your own versions! I was attempting to capture the models at the 1st frame of the RV ordering screen (although I've since realized that Citra delays screenshots by a frame, so many of them are actually the 2nd frame). And I also measured the amount of whitespace used on the HHD icons, which is almost always 1.33x the length of the longest edge of a piece of furniture. The first frame + the amount of whitespace used perfectly mimic'd the angle and whitespace of the HHD icons, but it's better for all the models to have consistency, so please replace mine as it's seen fit. HylianAngel (talk) 20:09, January 9, 2021 (EST)
Sorry for the late response, I didn't see this until just now. For the furniture screenshots, I used the same standards that were used for the GCN screenshots: front-on angle (which requires waiting a little bit for it to spin around, since they start angled in NL; going frame-by-frame is useful here) and +20% padding on the larger axis. ~ AlexBot2004 (Talk) 01:15, January 16, 2021 (EST)

Awesome, I have added you to the staff channels on the Discord! --Jake (talk) 19:54, January 31, 2021 (EST)

Yo.

If you want to check if the image is still on Villager houses/New Leaf, there's a dropdown menu to purge cache, which reloads everything and updates the photos. That way, you can be sure it's no longer linked to the page itself as the table itself is a cargo table. Hope it helps! -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 17:16, February 22, 2021 (EST)

I've used the "purge cache" option after changing out photos, but sometimes the old photos still linger some reason before eventually purging after time passes, so I figure it's better to just not delete the photo right away so the display doesn't get negatively affected. I also add the delete template to keep track of which photos need to be deleted, so it would be easy to just click "purge cache" once instead of every time I switch out a photo since I plan to update many of the exterior photos, then later mass-delete all of them once the page gets fixed. HylianAngel (talk) 17:27, February 22, 2021 (EST)
Oh that's understandable! -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 17:28, February 22, 2021 (EST)

The edits you made then reverted

So, what's the story behind those edits to the e+ villagers' favorite songs that you made but then later reverted?

I'm asking this because I noticed something fishy when you changed Walker's favorite song in e+ to K.K. Mambo, as I remember an e+ video (which I can't find to prove my point) that shows Walker and I distinctly remember Two Days Ago playing in his house. Snapping Turtle NH Icon.pngTurtleCrossing of the Turtle TribeTortimer PC Character Icon.png 03:56, April 15, 2021 (EDT)

I was following the spreadsheet outlined here, however, I felt something was off because all of the values were just reflections of the base-game counterparts's songs (Wade -> Joey, Nindori -> Bangle, etc.) and I discovered through manual research that the DnMe+ song values were probably incorrect, so I reverted everything related to it. Gonna hold back on using the spreadsheet for DnMe+ songs until it gets fixed. I've also been taught how to hack the villagers into DnMe+, so I plan to manually research all their songs to make sure they are correct. Just learned that Leonardo's is K.K. Safari, which makes both the current article and the spreadsheet incorrect. HylianAngel (talk) 04:08, April 15, 2021 (EDT)
This was also why I made many reverts involving the DnMe+ exteriors: I analyzed the spreadsheet and realized that the DnMe+ villagers were using colors that shouldn't have existed (color #5) and were also all missing color #0, and it turned out all of the values were off by 1. So that got fixed on the spreadsheet and I fixed the initial edits I made here based on the previous incorrect version. HylianAngel (talk) 04:11, April 15, 2021 (EDT)

Furniture

Hello, so I've noticed there's a big problem with some of the NH Furniture pages. Color pages like Green and Black are completely screwed up and only show a string of red code. Is there a way to fix it?AnnieCat07 (talk) 09:59, November 7, 2021 (EST)

The tables have grown too large thanks to all the new furniture - we'll make a change on the server to support the bigger tables, but we'll need to look at ways to reduce their size (either removing one or two columns, or merging variations into one row). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 11:15, November 7, 2021 (EST)

New to Wiki

Hi, I'm new to this wiki and I don't really know what this wiki is for if you don't mind could you teach me a few things to know about this wiki. - unsigned comment from Leah ♡ (talkcontribs)

Hi, Leah! For the most part, you can just browse the website by checking different pages, and if you happen to see anything that needs to be fixed, feel free to fix/improve it. It's not mandatory, so don't feel pressured. And check out the help pages if you do need help with editing anything. I'm down with answering any specific questions you have to the best of my ability. HylianAngel (talk) 00:36, December 2, 2021 (EST)
Wikis are mainly about learning more about specific things. (So for example if you wanted to learn more about a specific villager, like Stitches, you can browse his page to learn more about him. Or if you wanted to learn more about the Luck mechanic, you would go to that page.) And then people can edit a page to add missing info, fix incorrect info, etc. HylianAngel (talk) 00:39, December 2, 2021 (EST)
Thanks for helping me out ♡ - unsigned comment from Leah ♡ (talkcontribs)
No problem! I didn't really go super in-depth into explaining how to use the wiki, but hopefully there are some useful links in the Welcome template on your talk page. It's basically just browsing the wiki for more info on Animal Crossing and fixing things if you feel like it. And don't forget to sign your messages with 4 tildes ~~~~~ if you're on a talk page like this one. HylianAngel (talk) 01:00, December 2, 2021 (EST)

It's no bother at all! There's actually a lot to talk about when it involves wiki-editing, but it would be difficult for me to summarize everything about it. But I think the help pages do a good job summarizing the most important points. Again just let me (or any staff members) know if you have a specific question. Hobby Revert

Hello, I see that you reverted my edit on Hobby, but I do not know why. The reason I added those extra lines is because the size of file:NHFloHobbyMusic.jpg was causing the list of villagers with the music hobby to be a very long, single file list. Adding the extra lines allows the list to start after the picture, allowing the list to take up the entire width of the screen (just like how all the other lists of villagers with this hobby are currently), significantly shorting the page and increasing the quality if you ask me. Can I redo my edit? —Moo🐮Moo🐄Meadows (talk) 12:20, December 26, 2021 (EST)

What type of device and resolution do you have? It doesn't look like a single column on my screen. The standard would be to use Template:Clear rather than 3 line breaks. HylianAngel (talk) 19:24, December 26, 2021 (EST)
Oh, perhaps is just the mobile version then. It doesn’t appear as a single file line when in portrait view either, only when in landscape. Never mind then! —Moo🐮Moo🐄Meadows (talk) 09:51, December 27, 2021 (EST)

Revert on Korean translations

Hi, I was wondering what you meant when you reverted my edits on the Korean translations of the KK songs. What do you mean by “identical to romanization?” Thanks, BadTime123 (talk) 19:48, January 1, 2022 (EST)

On Olaf's page for example, it can be seen that ja=アントニオ is his actual Japanese name, ja-r=Antonio is the romanization of his name, and ja-m=... describes additional relevance to the meaning of his name. It wouldn't be helpful or necessary to say ja-m=Antonio as that is already described in the romanization. For this edit, it's already seen that it translates to K.K. Sonata in the ko-r parameter. Help with fixing Accessories/Headgear of New Leaf

Hey, nice to meet you! I'm a New Leaf player and as such, I find great use in the New Leaf wiki pages. I noticed you have worked on the Accessories/Headgear wiki page for New Leaf and are a respectable member of the wiki! I'd like some help in cleaning up both of these pages, as they are not only duplicates, but incomplete. I'm new to editing but I'd like to help any way I can. I've been using a mostly trusty database site to fill in the gaps where the wiki falls short, but I think it's high time we complete these pages. What do you think? CompuGenetics (talk) 01:17, January 2, 2022 (EST)

I was mostly just fixing the broken image links that were on that page, I don't have too much knowledge in that area. You may want to contact the people who maintain the New Leaf spreadsheet instead (here). But the way it's been working so far for the other retro games like Wild World and City Folk is that the spreadsheets are created through datamined info, the item images are generated through automated processes, and then only after the spreadsheet is mostly complete would the item pages like the New Leaf Headgear page be regenerated with a bot. Right now the New Leaf spreadsheet maintainers are working on editing the game in order to take some clean item pictures. Sometime after those are generated, then the item pages may be regenerated, but it's a slow and steady process before reaching that goal. HylianAngel (talk) 01:35, January 2, 2022 (EST)
Ah, interesting! Thanks for the link, I will certainly look into this. CompuGenetics (talk) 02:01, January 2, 2022 (EST)

Can You help redo my profile picture?

I got a new name so I want to change my profile picture can you please help ToadetteFan007 (Hiya!) 07:35, January 5, 2022 (EST)

I added File:Elephant Lady Profile picture.png back to your user page. I'm assuming there might have been confusion since you uploaded a new version (an image of Toadette) but you were still seeing the older picture of the brown dog. That's just a caching issue, the image updates after some time passes, like about maybe a day. If you want the name of the image to be altered to something to reflect your new name, then just go to the image page and look for the "Move" option in the left column. Click it, and from there, type in the new more appropriate name.
Also I just realized that your signature doesn't contain a link back to your user page and only to your talk page. Make sure to edit your signature so it also links back to your user page, as required by the signature policy. HylianAngel (talk) 15:48, January 5, 2022 (EST)

DnMe+ Islander on Shore Images

So I've been noticing you uploading screenshots of the DnMe+ islanders and one "type" of screenshot that caught my eye are the ones that involve the islanders resting on the beach akin to Gulliver after you've scanned their e-reader cards.

Since the original 18 islanders (e.g. Caroline, Ankha, O'Hare) have the exact same acquisition methods in DnMe+ as the 18 new ones in that version (i.e. you must scan their e-reader cards), that means they too have this unique Gulliver-esque position in e+ that they don't possess in any other version of the original game. I'm wondering if you'll upload "DnMe+ Islander on Shore" screenshots for the original 18 islanders alongside the e+-exclusive ones. Snapping Turtle NH Icon.pngThe Jacketed TerrapinSoft-Shelled Turtle NH Icon.png 01:42, May 19, 2022 (EDT)

My current goal is to fix some of the stage 1 DnMe+ houses (which are slightly different from their stage 1 PG islander counterparts, purely because player characters do not have a shadow while they are inside of their house or villager houses in PG, but the player character shadow does exist in houses for DnM/DnM+/DnMe+). I figured, since it was convenient, I'd also take 1 screenshot of the DnMe+ islander on the shore and then at least 1 dialogue screenshot. I wasn't planning on doing DnMe+ shore screenshots of the original 18 islanders, but I don't mind doing it real quick after I finish up the DnMe+ ones. Also if you're ever interested, I can type up instructions on how to access the e-Reader content and get the islanders onto your island in DnMe+. That way you'd also be able to take screenshots of DnMe+ islander content. HylianAngel (talk) 02:03, May 19, 2022 (EDT)
Okay, I get ya.
Also, regarding that last piece: I don't have an emulator of DnMe+ and I don't think my computer would really handle it that well (that and I'm rather paranoid since I downloaded two emulators of the N64 game and it gave my computer a really bad virus), so I'm afraid your advice is of no use to me. Hi

This is random, but how do you pronounce your name, Soleil? I’ve had people pronounce it “So-lay”, but also “so-lee-el”. I’m just wondering after seeing your page, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 22:21, July 8, 2022 (EDT)

Usually the first instinct of a person unfamiliar with French is to read it as it is spelled, soh-lay-l. However, it is a legitimate word in French, meaning "sun," and it is meant to be pronounced as soh-lay. If you're familiar with Cirque du Soleil, it is the same word and is pronounced the same way. A lot of people, even ones who how to pronounce Cirque du Soleil, make the mistake of pronouncing the last L even though it is meant to be silent. I've actually made this mistake too. My name comes from Soleil from Fire Emblem. HylianAngel (talk) 22:30, July 8, 2022 (EDT)

Question

How do you make the thing on your user page that looks like the one on villager pages with information about the villager? Hoping to add this to my page, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 18:14, July 15, 2022 (EDT)

You can copy-paste the example on Infobox User and add it to your page. Then fill out information after each equal sign as appropriate, or remove/leave blank the fields you don't want to use. Alternatively, you can view the source code on my page by clicking "edit" (do not click "save changes" afterwards) and copy-paste it to your user page to use as a placeholder and change it around as you'd like. If you need additional help (like the template is not working on your page for some reason), I can help edit your user page if you give me permission. HylianAngel (talk) 18:23, July 15, 2022 (EDT)
Hi, How do you add images to the template?💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 17:56, July 16, 2022 (EDT)
Here's an example, just change the image name to the image that you want:
|image = HylianAngel (talk) 18:06, July 16, 2022 (EDT)
Thanks, And how would you add photos from your personal photo drive? Thanks,💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 18:25, July 16, 2022 (EDT)
On the file uploading page, select the photo from your photo drive and give it an appropriate file name. Like mentioned on the upload policy page, you can upload a few personal images to Nookipedia even if it's not related to Animal Crossing. HylianAngel (talk) 18:35, July 16, 2022 (EDT)
Ok, thanks, I never knew that! 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 10:39, July 17, 2022 (EDT)
Hi, could you help? It’s not working! The image just doesn’t want to appear! Thanks,💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 19:36, July 18, 2022 (EDT)
On the upload file screen, click "Browse." At this point, you should see folders and image files on your computer. Navigate through your folders until you find the image that you want to upload and double-click it. Have you been able to get this far? HylianAngel (talk) 19:41, July 18, 2022 (EDT)
But what about on a mobile device? I’m so sorry but I don’t have an available computer at the moment so thanks-💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 23:08, July 25, 2022 (EDT)
I had never tried to upload an image file on a mobile device before. But I went ahead and checked just now. The process is the same as desktop, but instead click "Choose File." At that point, your phone should give you a selection of apps and folders. For me, I see the "Files" folder, so I tap it, and it shows me all of my phone's files (images, music, documents, etc.). From there, you should be able to navigate through your phone's files until you locate the image you would like to upload. HylianAngel (talk) 23:17, July 25, 2022 (EDT)
Hi, ok, I’ve got the image uploaded to the wiki, but when I type in the link on my page, it keeps showing up as a red link and not an image. Help, please? 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 09:26, August 6, 2022 (EDT)
I took a look at your user contributions, but it looks like you have not uploaded any images to the wiki. HylianAngel (talk) 21:34, August 6, 2022 (EDT)
oh, I thought I did. I remember going through the process but I must have done something wrong. I’ll try again. Thanks, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 08:59, August 8, 2022 (EDT)
Hi, I tried again, made sure I uploaded it, and it keeps coming up as a red link. Could you please help me in some way? Sorry if I’ve been bothering you, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 22:01, August 9, 2022 (EDT)
I went ahead and fixed it! It just needed to be in this style: . However, I also moved the extension from .jpeg to .jpg, so it's actually . HylianAngel (talk) 02:15, August 10, 2022 (EDT)
Thank you so much! I think I’ve been forgetting about the 250 px part. This conversation is so squished now! Bye,💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 10:16, August 20, 2022 (EDT)
Hi, so sorry to bother you again, but how many personal images are you allowed to upload? And is it ok if it’s a screenshot from a different NIWA wiki? Thanks, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 09:16, September 10, 2022 (EDT)
It's mentioned on the upload policy page, but you can upload up to 5 personal images. You can re-upload an image from another wiki, just make sure to paste the original URL link in the "source" field. If you want to, you could paste the link of an image from another wiki on your userpage, but it will just be a link and not like an actual image (you'd have to upload it as its own file on Nookipedia). HylianAngel (talk) 14:21, September 10, 2022 (EDT)

I uploaded a new image for my Userpage, but it’s not showing up. I think it’s the 250 px thing at the back. Should I change that? If so, what do I change it to? Thanks, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 18:06, November 3, 2022 (EDT)

It's because it was file:///Toadalindavatardrawing2.jpeg instead of file:Toadalindavatardrawing2.jpeg The forward slashes aren't part of the file name. I went ahead and fixed it on your profile page, and I also moved it to .jpg instead of .jpeg for standardization purposes. HylianAngel (talk) 22:27, November 3, 2022 (EDT)

Villager name origins

Can you use this video for the name origin of the villagers in New Horizons? Do note that not all villagers from New Horizons are mentioned in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0hUoprD114 --24.44.76.188 21:09, July 19, 2022 (EDT)

I mentioned this earlier on your talk page, but it is better to not add too much speculation about villager name origins. We try to keep speculation very low and only add clear/obvious connections. Many of the things you added are too speculative. I already explained why some of the changes you made were not good, but here are some more examples:
 • Saying that "Mac" is a common dog name may or may not be true, but there are several other non-dog villagers that have names that are much more commonly chosen for dogs, such as Apollo and Sasha. So it is better not to say that any villager names are common pet names, because not only is it too speculative, it is probably not true. (Plus the one you mentioned about "Fran" being a common rabbit name is completely untrue, and even if it is true, it definitely needs a citation.)
 • Saying that Portia is a high-class name is very subjective.
 • Saying that "nate" derives from "hibernate" might be true, but you still shouldn't add this speculation because "nate" can be short for many other words, such as "procrastinate," "obstinate," "dominate," "coordinate," etc., and it's just cherry-picking an apt word at that point to relate it with the villager.
Speculation is fun for video topics, but it should not be added to wikis since wikis should be mainly about factual data. However, if there is something that you feel is a strong likelihood at a villager name's origin, but it was removed, you can post a discussion on the villager's talk page to gauge community opinion. For the most part, I would like to err on the side of caution and not assume localization choices made by Nintendo, but if the overall community feels it's important enough to note, then it would make sense to include it. Hi

What's your favorite Animal Crossing game? Mine is New Leaf. CZ2746isback (talk) 18:58, August 23, 2022 (EDT)

It's difficult for me to choose a favorite. I'm nostalgic for Wild World since that was my first Animal Crossing game, though I tried playing it again years later and realized how dated it's become compared to the newer entries. I love New Leaf too, but its one major downside is that you can't choose where the villager houses go (ignoring manipulation tactics with public works projects). New Horizons would probably be the perfect entry if it had just retained way more of the New Leaf features. So it might be a cop-out answer, but maybe a 3-way tie between Wild World, New Leaf, and New Horizons, I like them all for different reasons.
Even though in some ways, City Folk is almost like an enhanced version of Wild World, I don't like City Folk as much compared to Wild World because of the aggressive grass deterioration, the multiple tiers in the town (I prefer the flat terrain more), and the DS stylus feeling much more natural for navigating through menus and guiding the character compared to the Wii Remote. Though City Folk was great too. HylianAngel (talk) 19:28, August 23, 2022 (EDT)
Yeah, and even worse people can literally vandalize or grief your town like cutting down trees, running over flowers, and many more. CZ2746isback (talk) 19:47, August 23, 2022 (EDT)

I think they're back

I don't know it's allowed to tell staff members about a bad editor on the loose, but...

Remember the user who used to make opinions on certain villagers (like Sheldon and Hazel)?

I think they're back with a new IP: https://nookipedia.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/2600:6C60:5A00:E37B:58FC:B9C3:9DB5:839A TheLegendaryPuff (talk) 21:50, August 23, 2022 (EDT)

Yeah, it's totally fine to inform staff about vandalism. Thanks for letting me know. You can also post on the staff noticeboard if you need to alert staff. HylianAngel (talk) 02:19, August 24, 2022 (EDT)

asking a question

um, what infobox do you use for the information on you island? nookfan10:19, September 23, 2022 (EDT) - unsigned comment from Nookfan (talkcontribs)

I use Infobox Town. You can "edit" the page without saving changes to see the templates that are being used. HylianAngel (talk) 15:12, September 23, 2022 (EDT)

Edit Korean romanization

For staffs, Korean people doesn't use Revised Romanization of Korean. They use McCune–Reischauer romanization. ex) 미첼(Sasha) > mich'el

뽀야미(Flurry) > ppoyami

애플(Apple) > aep'ŭl

잭슨(Raymond) > chaeksŭn

쭈니(Marshal) > tchuni

피터(Beau) > p'it'ŏ

like this. - unsigned comment from GENI (talkcontribs)

Thank you for bringing attention to this topic. Since you are a native Korean speaker, your opinion on this subject is valuable. However, right now pretty much the entire wiki is using the Revised Romanization of Korean. The change you are suggesting will affect hundreds of pages. Either system is acceptable, as long as the wiki is consistent with either style. If you would like to change it to McCune–Reischauer romanization, I would suggest bringing this issue up in Nookipedia talk:The Roost with compelling reasons why it would be better to use the McCune–Reischauer romanization.
When you started editing individual pages to use McCune–Reischauer romanization instead of Revised Romanization, I reverted these edits and explained on your talk page why it was not appropriate, but you kept adding them back. If you want to implement a change that will affect hundreds of pages and those edits were reverted, always bring up the issue first in Nookipedia talk:The Roost (or the related article's talk page) to gauge consensus, rather than trying to force your particular wanted editing style onto pages. about external links

Hi, I was going and adding external links to my user page. I was switching through tabs, copy and pasting other NIWA site links, but after a while, I got signed out of my account. I could just press save changes every time I add one, but I always see people telling others not to repeatedly edit because it clogs the recent edits, so I don’t really know what to do. Please help? I’m so sorry for bothering you again. -💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 22:27, October 5, 2022 (EDT)

When you log into Nookipedia, you can click the "Keep me logged in" checkbox so that you don't get logged out periodically. If that's not an option for you because you are using a shared computer or something, you can still type out the edit and alternate between writing the edit and clicking "Show preview" until you're sure that you're ready. When you're finally ready (and if you are logged out at that point), copy all of the text to your clipboard, and then log in, paste the edits onto your userpage, and save.
Does that make sense? Also, you don't have to worry about bothering me, I'm fine with answering any wiki questions to the best of my ability! HylianAngel (talk) 04:37, October 6, 2022 (EDT)
Ok, thanks! I primarily use a mobile device for editing, so this shouldn’t be a problem! Thank you so much, 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 08:53, October 6, 2022 (EDT)

Image Limit

Hi, it’s me again, I’d like to ask what the limit for personal images is? Also, happy birthday to nookipedia! 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 19:11, October 23, 2022 (EDT)

It's normally 5 personal images, as described in the upload policy, though there are sometimes exceptions with permission. HylianAngel (talk) 19:14, October 23, 2022 (EDT)
Ok, thanks! 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 10:39, October 24, 2022 (EDT)

Hi, am I allowed to upload an image from a different wiki and put it on my user page? The image wouldn’t be mine. Am I allowed to do this? 💜Toadalind💜 (talk) 09:28, November 1, 2022 (EDT)

Yes, just make sure to include a link back to the original URL in the "source" field. Here's an example, you can see that clicking the link in the source field goes back to the original wiki. HylianAngel (talk) 16:02, November 1, 2022 (EDT)

Quick Question About Resolution Stuff

This is what I mean by the border.

Hello. I noticed that when I upload an Animal Crossing (PG) screenshot that I take through Wii to HDMI, it's marked as a low quality screenshot- which is fair, given that it's not being taken in original res in an emulator. My question(s), though, is/are this: Would you say that a low quality screenshot is better than none? Do you think that there's a way to make them the correct res on console? Note: Elgato doesn't seem to have a res like that supported. It might have something to do with the fact that it's running in 480p instead of 480i, though I don't think that affects res. Elgato capture seems to do this weird thing where there's this black border on the bottom, right, and left of the screen- you can see it below. I crop this out in my screenshots I upload, of course. If you have any idea about this, please let me know. Thanks! Vince (talk) 01:17, January 3, 2023 (EST)

I would agree that it would be better to have a screenshot of somewhat reasonable quality rather than no screenshot. Your screenshots are fine; if they were off-screen camera screenshots, then that would be more of an issue. Unfortunately, it's just that most non-emulator screenshots taken from Animal Forest -> City Folk are automatically considered low-quality, per Nookipedia's upload policy. Low-quality screenshots can always be eventually replaced with new ones in the future, so it's not a huge deal. I'm not really familiar with using Elgato software, so I don't know what's up with the black bars. HylianAngel (talk) 01:30, January 3, 2023 (EST)
Ahh, I see. Does that apply to screenshots taken with a DS capture device, which simply takes raw pixel data straight from the DS and displays it? Vince (talk) 01:36, January 3, 2023 (EST)
I don't think anyone's uploaded a DS capture device screenshot before, so I would probably need to see an example. But if the color quality/resolution output is the same as the DS emulator screenshot output, then it should be fine. HylianAngel (talk) 01:43, January 3, 2023 (EST)
Capture DS Screenshot Example.png
They look like this on the right. The top and bottom screens are stacked on top of each other, though they can be split and/or cropped. Vince (talk) 01:53, January 3, 2023 (EST)
The resolution is perfect; however, I compared an emulator screenshot of the DS home menu screen with yours, and it looks like yours is just very slightly darker. While your DS capture device is simply taking the raw pixel data, it is probably also taking into account the brightness setting on the Nintendo DS. To be honest, I'm not sure if this would be a big enough deal to mark the image as "low quality," and it's possible this might be acceptable. It would be better to ask AlexBot2004 his opinion on this, since he is the main author behind the Nookipedia upload policy. HylianAngel (talk) 02:12, January 3, 2023 (EST)
Ok then, I'll have to ask him about it. Thanks! Vince (talk) 02:21, January 3, 2023 (EST)
No problem. Thank you for your contributions so far! HylianAngel (talk) 02:24, January 3, 2023 (EST)
