Wendell is a wallpaper salesman and traveling artist in the SER. He has slightly different roles in each game appearance, but they all revolve around his artistic ability and design skills. He is a blue walrus with two large, white tusks. He wears a sleeveless shirt which does not cover his large, round stomach, which has a small cross for a belly button. He always carries a canvas and a traveler's backpack with him. His extreme hunger may be a reference to the phrase "starving artist."

Appearance
 +
Wendell is a fat, periwinkle blue walrus with two large white tusks, large closed eyes with dark-blue lining his upper lids, dark-blue freckles with grayish-white linings (for visibility), and a white belly with a periwinkle blue x-shaped belly button. His flippers have dark-blue lines resembling webbing, with grayish-white lining to separate his digits from one another.
 +

 +
Clothing
 +
In DnM, PG, short, short, and film, Wendell wears a beige sleeveless shirt that does not cover his entire stomach, leaving his small x belly button visible. He carries a canvas, traveler's backpack, and umbrella with him. Starting in short, he wears beige striped pajamas and a matching nightcap, and only carries a canvas. In his RV in short, he wears a beige sleeveless shirt.
 +

 +
Personality
 +
Wendell likes sleeping (explaining why he always closes his eyes, and wears pajamas and a nightcap starting in short) and eating (explaining why he is always fat). Due to being a traveling artist, he also likes rewarding the player with different kinds/types of wallpaper and designs/patterns upon getting fed by the player, traveling, and painting. He even likes copying other patterns from the town residents all while dreaming in short.

Wendell has a wallpaper selling role in nolink. He will show up in the player's town on Saturday or Sunday, but has been known to show up on other days, too. He appears at a random time of day. He will tell the player he is hungry upon talking to him, and will ask for food. He will eat anything, including fruit, fish, and turnips. He will give some wallpaper to the player for free as a reward during the weekend and will sell it to the player during weekdays. He disappears after a while. In the original DnM, Wendell only eats fish.
+
In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, Wendell can appear as a visitor every two to seven days. In the days leading up to his arrival, Copper tells the player that Wendell was spotted in the next town over, and he tells them what day he will be in town. When Wendell is in town, Copper tells the player which acre he is currently in.
 +

 +
Wendell walks around in a random acre and asks the player for food if spoken to. If the player gives him any fish, he remarks that it is his favorite and gives the player one of 18 (19 in ) exclusive wallpaper items. Afterward, he continues to thank the player and does not ask for any more food. Wendell will eat any fruit, candy, or a mushroom, but he will say it did not taste very good and will continue to ask for food. If the player gives Wendell a non-food item, he does not eat it but still takes it from them. Despite turnips being edible, Wendell treats them as a non-food item.

Wendell's role in short is different than it is in the previous installments. This time, he gives out unique designs. Upon giving him something to eat when he visits the town, he gives a pattern that is unobtainable anywhere else. He will eat fruit and turnips as well as fish. Giving him any type of fruit will yield a pattern already obtained, with the exception of coconuts, which yield a different pattern. He does not appear on Sunday or Saturday anymore. Instead, he appears from 6 AM to midnight on a random weekday (excluding the day Redd comes). In short, Wendell comes from Tuskany. When one of his designs is displayed at Able Sisters, it will say Wendell from Tuskany. Tuskany is a pun involving the region of Tuscany, Italy and tusks, which are a predominant feature on walruses. Wendell is the first step in the Golden Axe Trading Event.

Wendell has the same role in short as he did in short, excluding the Golden Axe Trade Event and Redd (who now has a store in the city). If the player puts Wendell's designs on display at Able Sisters and asks to receive one of them, Mabel says: "That design is made by Wendell from Sumware," which is a pun on "somewhere."

Although Wendell does not appear in NH, Wendell's Poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after attempting to invite him to Photopia via his amiibo.
+
Although initially absent, Wendell was added in the 2.0 update of NH, as one of the many visitors to the Roost should the player invite him by using his amiibo card. He still wears his pajamas from the Dream Towns in short; he attributes this to rushing out of bed and forgetting to change his clothes. In addition, Wendell's poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after inviting him to Photopia via his amiibo.

Wendell is a walrus in the Animal Crossing series. He has slightly different roles in each game appearance, ranging from wallpaper salesman to traveling artist, but they all revolve around his artistic ability and design skills. His extreme hunger may be a reference to the phrase "starving artist."

Characteristics[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Artwork from Doubutsu no Mori.

Clothing[edit]

In Doubutsu no Mori, Animal Crossing, Wild World, City Folk, and 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori, Wendell wears a beige sleeveless shirt that does not cover his entire stomach, leaving his small x belly button visible. He carries a canvas, traveler's backpack, and umbrella with him. Starting in New Leaf, he wears beige striped pajamas and a matching nightcap, and only carries a canvas. In his RV in Welcome amiibo, he wears a beige sleeveless shirt.

Personality[edit]

Wendell likes sleeping (explaining why he always closes his eyes, and wears pajamas and a nightcap starting in New Leaf) and eating (explaining why he is always fat). Due to being a traveling artist, he also likes rewarding the player with different kinds/types of wallpaper and designs/patterns upon getting fed by the player, traveling, and painting. He even likes copying other patterns from the town residents all while dreaming in New Leaf.

Appearances[edit]

In Animal Crossing[edit]

Artwork from Animal Crossing.

Wendell walks around in a random acre and asks the player for food if spoken to. If the player gives him any fish, he remarks that it is his favorite and gives the player one of 18 (19 in Doubutsu no Mori e+) exclusive wallpaper items.

In Wild World[edit]

See also: List of Wendell's designs in Wild World

Wendell's role in Wild World is different than it is in the previous installments. This time, he gives out unique designs. Upon giving him something to eat when he visits the town, he gives a pattern that is unobtainable anywhere else. He will eat anything, but a pattern can only be acquired by feeding him fruit, turnips, acorns, and fish. Giving him any type of fruit will yield a pattern already obtained, except coconuts, which yield a different pattern. He does not appear on Sunday or Saturday anymore. Instead, he appears from 6 AM to midnight on a random weekday (excluding the day Redd comes). In Wild World, Wendell comes from Tuskany. When one of his designs is displayed at Able Sisters, it will say Wendell from Tuskany. Tuskany is a pun involving the region of Tuscany, Italy and tusks, which are a predominant feature on walruses. Wendell is the first step in the Golden Axe Trading Event.

In City Folk[edit]

See also: List of Wendell's designs in City Folk

Wendell has the same role in City Folk as he did in Wild World, excluding the Golden Axe Trade Event and Redd (who now has a store in the city). If the player puts Wendell's designs on display at Able Sisters and asks to receive one of them, Mabel says: "That design is made by Wendell from Sumware," which is a pun on "somewhere."

With WiiConnect24 enabled, he may give out designs on behalf of Nintendo as distributed designs, saying something along the lines of "I made this new design, and wondered what you would think..."

In New Leaf[edit]

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Wendell appears in Dream Towns distributing the custom designs from the town residents. His appearance is changed; he now wears a nightcap and pajamas. Owners of the town can choose not to let him appear if they wish.

In New Horizons[edit]

Although initially absent, Wendell was added in the 2.0 update of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as one of the many visitors to the Roost should the player invite him by using his amiibo card. He still wears his pajamas from the Dream Towns in New Leaf; he attributes this to rushing out of bed and forgetting to change his clothes. In addition, Wendell's poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after inviting him to Photopia via his amiibo.

In Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori[edit]

Wendell briefly appears in 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori. Ai finds him on the beach, exhausted from hunger. She takes him to his house to eat. After he is finished, he disappears without warning.

Other appearances[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Wendell appears as a trophy and a sticker, and can be seen in the Smashville stage.

Wendell

Description A famous painter who wanders about with a large rucksack on his back. When he arrives in town, he's so hungry he can barely stand. While you think it's probably a good idea to give him something to eat, it's hard to figure out what that should be. That being said, he looks really hungry and would likely devour anything given to him.

Wendell

Description NTSC-U: Wendell is a wandering artist with a healthy appetite. He may be a walrus, but his tastes extend well beyond fish! In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he only appears in dreams when the player uses the Dream Suite. He doesn't seem to be too hungry, but it is a dream—he's probably happily eating in the waking world!

PAL: A travelling artist with a big appetite. Since he's a walrus, you might think he'd only eat fish, but he'll also gobble up fruit, nuts and...pretty much anything. You could say he's a fan of the "sea food diet". In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he only appears in dreams, when you visit the Dream Suite. At least then he's not too hungry!
