Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is an enhanced edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch 2 set to release on January 15, 2026, alongside the 3.0 Free Update. It can be purchased either as a full game (retailing for US$64.99) or as an Upgrade Pack for the original game (retailing for US$4.99).[1] As with all Nintendo Switch 2 Edition titles, physical cartridges inserted in a Nintendo Switch will play the original game.

The game will run at a resolution of 4K, increased from the 1080p of the original. The framerate will remain capped at 30 frames per second.[1] The game will also have faster load times.[2]

Mouse controls[edit]

The game is mouse-compatible. A Joy-Con 2 controller can be used as a mouse to move items, create designs, and draw on the bulletin board.

The megaphone, a tool introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, returns, allowing the player to call for villagers using the Nintendo Switch 2's built-in microphone.

Online play[edit]

12 players in The Roost

Up to 12 players can join in online if they all have the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Additionally, players can use the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera to show their face above their player character.
