Bell rock
The Bell rock is a rock that produces Bells when hit with a shovel or axe. Each day a single rock in the player's town becomes a Bell rock and can be hit repeatedly to produce increasing amounts of Bells.
Once a Bell rock has been hit once, an internal timer starts. The rock can be hit a maximum of eight times, leaving one bag of Bells on each adjacent tile. After the player has hit the rock eight times or the timer runs out, the rock will no longer produce Bells. If a tile is already occupied, the Bell bag for that tile will not appear. Because the player is pushed back from the rock after each hit, digging holes behind them or otherwise preventing the pushback is required to hit the rock the maximum number of times within the time limit.
After four consecutive hits, the 1-Up sound effect from the Super Mario series plays with each hit.
If more than one player is living in a town, which rock is the Bell rock on a given day differs for each player, allowing for a player to collect money from multiple rocks in a single day.
Appearances[edit]
In the first-generation games[edit]
In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, the Bell rock turns red when hit the first time before fading back to gray, indicating how much time is left to hit it. The values of Bells produced by the rock is increased with good money luck from Katrina, and the time limit increases if the player has money power through fêng shui. Having money power through fêng shui is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.
The Bell values produced by the Bell rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):
- No money luck:
- 100 → 100 → 100 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 — total of 13,300 / 23,300 Bells
- With money luck:
- 1,000 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 → 30,000 → 30,000 — total of 63,000 / 93,000 Bells
There is a unique Bell rock each day for each of the four players living in town, as well as one for visitors.
In Wild World[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, having money power through fêng shui increases the time limit, and it is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.
The Bell values produced by the Bell rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):
- 100 → 200 → 400 → 800 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 8,500 / 16,500 Bells
In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, hitting a Bell rock with a silver shovel gives a 10% chance each hit of the Bell bag produced being double its normal value. Additionally, having money power through fêng shui increases the time limit, and it is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.
The Bell values produced by the Bell rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):
- 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 8,100 / 16,100 Bells
In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, fêng shui no longer affects the timer, and as a result the eighth Bell bag can be received by default. Having bad money luck from Katrina decreases the values of Bells, while having good money luck increases them.
The Bell values produced by the Bell rock are as follows:
- Bad money luck:
- 100 → 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 — total of 8,200 Bells
- No money luck:
- 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 16,100 Bells
- Good money luck:
- 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 → 16,000 — total of 32,000 Bells
If a Bell rock is hit with a silver shovel, there is a 20% chance that the rock will produce ore instead of Bells.
In New Horizons[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in addition to on the player's island, several Bell rocks appear on the Bell rock and scorpion islands on Mystery Tours. Beginning in version 2.0, Katrina's money luck affects Bell rocks, with good luck increasing the values of Bells, and bad luck preventing Bell rocks from appearing at all.
The Bell values produced by the Bell rock are as follows:
- No money luck:
- 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 16,100 Bells
- Good money luck:
- 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 → 16,000 — total of 32,000 Bells
If the player has energy points from food and breaks a Bell rock before its Bells have been dispensed, 8,000 Bells, or 16,000 Bells with good money luck, appear.
