Fruits are food items in the Animal Crossing series. They can be buried to grow fruit-bearing trees. Each town or island starts with several fruit trees that bear one of five types of fruit—either apples, cherries, oranges, peaches, or pears—that is known as the native fruit and sells for 100 Bells each. The other four non-native fruits can be obtained later through other means and sell for 500 Bells each. Coconuts sell for 150 Bells in Animal Crossing, 500 Bells in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, and 250 Bells in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Prior to New Horizons, eating a fruit has no effect except freeing up space in the player's pockets.
Appearances[edit]
In the first-generation games[edit]
In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, both native and non-native fruits can be obtained as gifts from villagers, and balloon presents have a 20% chance of containing a non-native fruit.
In Doubutsu no Mori+, Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, coconuts can be obtained from palm trees on Animal Island and planted in one of the F-acres in town.
In Wild World[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, both native and non-native fruits can be obtained from letters from villagers[nb 1] and Mom. Coconuts now wash up on the beach every few days.
Wendell will give a specific design to the player depending on the food he is given. The following designs can be received if the player gives him fruit:

In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, non-native fruits can be obtained in two different ways. The most common way to acquire non-native fruit by traveling to a town where they grow and can mail fruit to players in other towns. The player can alternatively send a letter to a resident of their town with the contents saying "How are you?" with a fruit attached, native or not. A couple days later, a letter with a present attached will be received, containing either a fruit (native or non-native) or a shirt. The same thing works with sick neighbors, with "Get well soon!" being on the letter. Like in Wild World, coconuts wash up on the beach every few days.

In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, individual fruit in the player's pockets can be stacked together to create a fruit basket, which can hold up to 9 fruit in a single inventory slot. Villagers can now request the player to give them a specific fruit, and fruits can be given to Dr. Shrunk in exchange for learning one of his jokes.
Six types of exotic fruit are introduced: banana, durian, lemon, lychee, mango, and persimmon, all of which sell for 250 Bells. None grow natively in the town, and can only be obtained from trees found on Tortimer Island or Tour islands, except for persimmon, which can only be purchased from the gardening corner at T&T Emporium for 1,000 Bells. Coconuts can also be obtained on Tortimer Island. Like coconuts, bananas grow from palm trees and can only be planted on beach sand. The other exotic fruits can be grown on land, similarly to common fruit.
"Perfect" variants are introduced for the five common fruits: perfect apple, perfect cherry, perfect orange, perfect peach, and perfect pear. They can be sold for higher value than the regular variants (600 Bells if native, 3,000 Bells if non-native).
When a town is created, one of the fruits on a single fruit tree will be assigned to grow as a perfect variant; once harvested, it can be planted to grow a tree bearing three perfect fruits. Once a perfect fruit tree is harvested around four to seven times, its leaves fall off, and one of its three fruits becomes a "rotten" variant, which acts as a trash item.
In New Horizons[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, eating a fruit gives the player one energy point, allowing them to break rocks and dig up trees. The exotic fruits from New Leaf do not return; like in earlier games, only the five possible native fruits and the coconut appear in New Horizons. All fruits now stack to ten.
An island's native fruit can be purchased from Nook's Cranny for 400 Bells, and it is displayed on the player's passport. In addition to a native fruit, each island has a secondary fruit, which will appear on trees on certain Mystery Islands. Mystery Islands are also the source of coconuts.
Use in crafting and cooking[edit]
Fruits are used as crafting materials or cooking ingredients in the DIY recipes for the following items.

In Pocket Camp[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, all five common fruits, as well as coconuts, can be found growing on trees in various locations on the map. The specific trees that are fruit-bearing, and the specific fruit grown on them, are randomly determined for each player. Only existing fruit trees, which bear fruit roughly every 2-3 hours, can be harvested as the player is unable to plant new trees. Fertilizer can be used on fruit trees to make the tree immediately grow new fruit.
- Apples, cherries, oranges, peaches, and pears grow on fruit trees at Breezy Hollow and Lost Lure Creek.
- Coconuts grow on palm trees at Saltwater Shores and Sunburst Island.
- Version 2.1.0 introduced three exotic fruits: lemons, lychees, and grapes. One is assigned as the player's "local" fruit, and will grow on fruit trees at Breezy Hollow and Lost Lure Creek.
- In Pocket Camp, the other two fruits could be obtained from other players' market boxes.
- In Pocket Camp Complete, the other two fruits can only be obtained randomly as a gift from other players at Whistle Pass.
All local fruit sells for 10 Bells, while non-local fruit sells for 600 Bells.
Perfect fruits return from New Leaf, alongside the introduction of perfect lemon, perfect lychee, and perfect grapes. There is a 2.38% chance for perfect fruit to grow on any fruit tree. Local perfect fruits sell for 600 Bells, while non-local ones sell for 1,200 Bells. Lemons and lychees have a different appearance from New Leaf, but the perfect variants resemble their designs in that game.
Fruit is used to complete requests for villagers. Villagers will ask specifically for the five common fruits, coconuts, and the player's local fruit, while any fruit may be selected for requests in which the villager does not specify a particular fruit.
The app icon used for versions 5.4.0 – 5.4.0b displayed a banana sprite, however neither bananas (as a harvestable fruit) nor the icon itself appear in the game.
