The chessboard is a miscellaneous furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As a miscellaneous item, it can be placed on either the ground or on the surfaces of tables and other similar furniture items that have surfaces for items.

The chessboard can be obtained from the upgraded Nook's Cranny for  95,000 Bells. The item's color can be customized by Cyrus at Harv's Island for  5,200 Bells.

This item appears as a furniture item in the homes of Lobo. As a result, this item has a chance to be purchasable by the player if they were invited by any of the preceding villagers.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for Boomer, Chops, Elvis, Knox, Marlo, Monique, Monty, Muffy, Pecan, Pudge, Queenie, Raymond, Rocket, Roscoe, Rudy, Tank, and Wendy. The item can also be unlocked when tasked by Lottie to design the school.

After unlocking this item in Happy Home Paradise, the item can be purchased from Wardell's catalog for  85,500 Poki.

Prior to version 2.0, the furniture icon for the chessboard featured the pieces positioned after 36 moves of a famous game known as Kasparov's Immortal. After the update, it no longer represents any known chess game.
