Stationery is a gameplay element in the Animal Crossing series; its primary function is for letter writing, and for receiving items in the mail. It comes in packs of four, with a variety of different patterns and themes.

Stationery can be obtained in a number of ways:

If the player receives a letter written on previously unencountered stationery, the stationery will be automatically added to the player's catalog in Animal Crossing: Wild World. This also applies to stationery sent by special characters or the HRA. Although these types of stationery cannot be bought or written on, they will appear in the catalog.

A paper with a blue tiled border and a metal plughole in the upper-right corner, designed to evoke a bathroom floor. The centre of the paper is designed to look as though it is set into the tiles. Drops of water are also scattered across the sheet.

A white paper with pale green lines, bordered by a red ribbon on the upper right corner and a sprig of pink and yellow flowers in the bottom left corner. This paper is sent by villagers to the player a short while before their birthdays, in order to remind the player to come and visit them on the day.

Butterfly paper is white with a pink and orange butterfly placed in each corner. At the bottom of of the paper is a green meadow with two small butterflies flying above it.

A dark khaki paper with a recurring camouflage pattern of green and brown splotches. In order to make writing on the paper possible, white ink is used instead of the more typical black ink.

Written on paper styled to look like ancient papyrus, the Egyptian paper has symbols running across the top of the page that are designed to look like Hieroglyphs, and a reversed copy of the same pattern along the bottom. The lines on which the letter is written are form by one long snake symbol.

Forest Paper features a bright dusky glade, bordered with tree trunks and verdant greenery to the top and bottom. The image is set on dark blue paper. Light translucent boxes sit over the image in order to allow one to read the words over the pattern.

The paper itself is white with a blue-grey, snowy sky for the top and a snowman sitting in the lower left corner. The ink with which the letter is written is dark blue.
