Bushes are a type of plant present in the Animal Crossing series. After appearing in earlier installments, this type of plant was removed in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk. Much like rocks, bushes are in the town when it is created; it is impossible to plant or modify them. Much like other flora, bushes turn brown in Fall.

While the player is walking through a bush, leaves will scatter around the area and then disappear. Despite not being seen, crickets also appear in bushes.

Bushes also appear in Animal Crossing: New Leaf as a new type of plant. They come in holly, azalea, hydrangea, hibiscus and olive varieties. They may be removed with a shovel. Players can buy these bushes at Tortimer Island for some medals, or the Garden Shop (once T.I.Y. is established) for some Bells and then plant the starts by burying them. These bushes take two days to grow to maturity and can be planted adjacent to each other (but not directly next to buildings, rivers, rocks etc.). Flowers will bloom on the bushes only during certain seasons, with buds appearing about a week before. No more than a combination of 15 trees and/or bushes may be planted in any 7x7 area, and attempting to plant more will result in the sapling(s) dying.

Bushes are added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the April Free Update. Much of the varieties from New Leaf return with the exception of the sweet-olive shrub alongside two new varieties: camellia and tea-olive, with a third new variety, the plumeria, being added in Update 2.0. This time, bushes can be placed directly adjacent to buildings without wilting. In addition, they can be picked up and moved with the shovel, similar to flowers. They can be bought from Leif, or picked up with a shovel on a boat tour.
