Snowboys (known as snowmen prior to New Leaf) are snowfolk in the Animal Crossing series. They can be built by the player by rolling two snowballs together. If built perfectly, they will give the player unique winter-themed items.

In all games, a Snowboy is considered perfectly built when made up of two large snowballs, with the head slightly smaller than the body.

Characteristics[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Artwork from Animal Crossing.

Snowboys are snowfolk, each one made of two snowballs, like their families. They have red noses almost shaped like triangles, big black circle dots for eyes, and small black circle dots for mouths.

Personality[edit]

Snowboys are usually grateful to anyone who builds them, a trait they share with their family. When built perfectly, they become conceited, constantly bragging about their perfect shape and form. When built near perfectly, they will briefly complain about their slight imperfection, but they will still overall be thankful. When built averagely, they will complain about the player's incompetence, and they will act with overall indifference. When built poorly, they will complain greatly and speak sarcastically, harshly criticizing the player's poor snowman-making abilities.

Appearances[edit]

In Animal Crossing[edit]

A perfectly built snowman in Animal Crossing.

In Animal Crossing, snowmen can be built from December 25 to February 17 by stacking two snowballs, and, if built perfectly, will mail the player an item from the Snowman Series the following day. The item that the player will receive is rolled immediately upon finishing the perfect snowman. If the player has already obtained the item that was rolled, then the item will be rolled once more. If a snowman is walked into for around two seconds, it will fall apart. Otherwise, snowmen will stay where they are for several days, slowly decreasing in size each day as they melt until they disappear.

Additionally, a Snowman furniture item can be obtained from Tortimer on Snow Day.

The quality of a snowman is determined by the proportion of size between the two snowballs used to create them. It does not matter if the smaller snowball is on the top or bottom.

Proportion Quality Possible quotes
80% - 89% Perfect "Yaaahooooo! You did it! You pulled it off! What a wonder you've built! A wintry masterpiece! A frozen classic for the ages! I'm a work of art! Snow Man! From chilly sky to earth... From freezing flakes to ball... Formless, friendless, frozen... Until you heard my call!" "YES!! Sweet, precious life! I've been perfectly molded! No complaints here! No, sir! And you! You're an artist! They should call YOU "Snowman," because you work ice-coldーno mistakes!" "What color! What luster! What shapeliness! Every bit of my form, so much more than simply average! Beneath your simple exterior, there obviously beats the heart of a true master!"
90% - 100%
70% - 79%
Good "Hmmm... Yes. Well, I suppose this is the best you can expect from a novice snowsmith. This isn't exactly what I'd call a traditional shape, but, I... I suppose I should thank you all the same." "Oooh! So close! If you'd put a little more thought into balance, I would've been a snowman to sing songs about! Oh, well. As they say: "Beauty's only crust deep!"" "Many thanks, <Player Name>! While I can't say that this is exactly the shape I was hoping for, I guess I'll take what I can get. So...here's to your next effort! May it be...a bit handsomer."
60% - 69% Bad "Huh? Oh, woe is me! What did you do? What cruel joke is this? Look, I appreciate your efforts and all, but honestly... It's just that... How can I be seen in public like this?" "Bleeeeaaargh! Nooooooo! OK, get it together. Wow. Um... Yeah... This is quite a...uhhh...unique design you used here. Still...I think maybe I would have been happy with more of a...traditional build... instead of this horror show..." "YIKES! What in the...? Well... I must admit, never in my wildest dreams did I envision looking like this. You... How to put this? You aren't all that artistically inclined, are you?"
Below 60% Very bad "By Old Man Winter's beard! Wha...? How in the...? You! You did this! What were you thinking? How did you manage to make this...shape? Look, it's not just me. No one could possibly look upon my form and feel anything but horror! I'd frighten children! Oh, frigid Fortune! Why do you delight in mocking me? If only my flakes had fallen in the next village over!!!" "Oh my. Yes, indeed. So this is how it is, hmm? Now, I'm not from this area. But I'd be pretty surprised if this sort of treatment was the norm. I mean, look at me! How could something as pristine as snow be used to form such ugliness? This is... too embarrassing for words!" "Why... Why did this have to happen to me? Why is it my fate to be born into such a hideous state? When you were making me, did you ever think: "Hmm... That's odd. I thought I was building a snowman, not a monster?""

In Wild World and City Folk[edit]

Snowmen appear in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk and act similar to their appearance in Animal Crossing, mailing the player items from the Snowman Series if built perfectly. They can be built from December 10 to December 25. Additionally, the Snowman furniture item returns, though it is now obtained from the snowman himself. Unlike in Animal Crossing, snowmen cannot be destroyed by running into them.

In New Leaf[edit]

Snowboy's letter in New Leaf.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, snowmen are now known as Snowboys, and alongside them are three new snowpeople: Snowmam, Snowman, and Snowtyke. Snowboys can be built from December 11 to February 25, and, like in previous games, Snowboys will mail the player an item from the Snowman Series if built perfectly. An imperfectly built Snowboy will comment that the player is so close to perfection, while a poorly built one will poke fun at the player for building him that way. A Snowboy has the same voice as a lazy villager.

Snowboys, as well as all other snowpeople, do not appear in dreams and cannot be called with a megaphone.

In New Horizons[edit]

A player building a Snowboy in New Horizons.

Snowboys return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons though the other Snowpeople do not return. Like in previous games, can be built by rolling two snowballs together. If a Snowboy is built perfectly, he gives the player who built him a large snowflake and a DIY recipe for an item from the Frozen Series. The first time the player builds a Snowboy, he gives them the rewards regardless of how well he was built. If the player has learned all the Frozen Series DIY recipes, a perfectly-built Snowboy only gives them a large snowflake, and if the player has crafted all of the Frozen Series items at least once, the Snowboy mails them a random item from the Snowboy DIY recipes instead of giving them a large snowflake.

Snowboys last for four days before completely melting, and speaking to a perfectly-built one on the three days after it is built results in him giving the player a large snowflake each day.

In Pocket Camp[edit]

In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, snowfall snowman is a special furniture that was available from December 26, 2019 to January 10, 2020. This furniture is obtainable by crafting and costs  350 Leaf Tickets. When interacted with, it produces various dialogue spoken by the snowman.

Snowboy is also part of the craftable Cheery Snowfamily.
