Paint

Paint is an item in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and Animal Crossing: City Folk that allows the player to change the roof color of their house. Paint can be purchased from Tom Nook's store and the available colors change on a daily basis. In New Leaf and New Horizons, paint does not appear; instead, different roof colors and designs can be purchased.

After the player pays off their mortgage, Tom Nook will ask them what color they want their roof to be. After buying a can of paint it takes one day for the roof color to change. Players can only buy paint in their town; Tom Nook will not sell to those visiting from another town.

In the first-generation games

In Doubutsu no Mori+, Animal Crossing, and Doubutsu no Mori e+, paint can be purchased from Nookway or Nookington's for 980 Bells. The player can also enlist Wisp to paint it after catching five spirits. Talking to a villager may also cause them to paint the player's roof, though the color cannot be chosen.

In Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, paint can be purchased from Nookington's for 980 Bells. The player's roof color can also be changed after the player's home loan is paid off.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, paint is now available for 980 Bells at Nook 'n' Go and Nookway, in addition to Nookington's. The player's roof color can also be changed after the player's home loan is paid off.
