The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island Transfer Tool is an application for the Nintendo Switch that transfers island data for Animal Crossing: New Horizons between Nintendo Switch consoles. It was released alongside the 1.6.0 Free Winter Update for New Horizons on November 18, 2020.

The Island Transfer Tool is the only way to move New Horizons save data between Nintendo Switch consoles, since the game's save data is tied to the console rather than a specific user on the console.

Functionality[edit]

Screenshot of the application explaining its purpose.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island Transfer Tool must be opened on two Nintendo Switch consoles. One console is chosen as the target system and the other as the source system; all New Horizons save data is then transferred from the source system to the target system via local wireless communication. The target system cannot already have New Horizons save data on it. After the transfer is completed, the save data is deleted from the source system.
