:I'm of the opinion that this should be renamed to Fox. It's absolutely clear that Redd is an actual fox (just like Tom is an actual raccoon-dog), whereas it's not so clear that Kapp'n is a turtle. If we're going to use Japanese names to denote their mythological significance, Tapir should be changed to Baku. Fddcsjxk (talk) 18:30, May 1, 2020 (EDT)

::Support the precedent is to go with whatever name is used in English, regardless of whether it's the same species or not (see Alligator vs Crocodile). The original Japanese name is already documented in an appropriate manner. For the record, I also think Tanuki should be moved to Racoon for the same reason (even if they are actually racoon-dogs), though of course that's for a separate discussion. -- Dorsal Axe (talk) 13:23, May 3, 2020 (EDT)

:::Support been about a week since we discussed it, but now I'm using the official support template and everything. Maybe this post will draw some more attention to the move discussion, if not, I'll bring it up in the Discord again soon. Move

I set up a move request because "kitsune" is just the Japanese word for "fox", unlike the tanuki, which is a real and distinct species from the raccoon. This was even pointed out on Redd's talk page a decade ago, and it doesn't seem like anything was done about it. Even if there's a mythological aspect to kitsune, for all intents and purposes, Redd doesn't really have any supernatural aspects associated with him. What do you think? I'm of the opinion that this should be renamed to Fox.
Support Support the precedent is to go with whatever name is used in English, regardless of whether it's the same species or not (see Alligator vs Crocodile). The original Japanese name is already documented in an appropriate manner. For the record, I also think Tanuki should be moved to Racoon for the same reason (even if they are actually racoon-dogs), though of course that's for a separate discussion. --Shark HHD Icon.png Dorsal Axe (talk) 13:23, May 3, 2020 (EDT)
